An intern was caught downloading child pornography at NASA, but officials let him continue working until he was arrested in an agency office a month later, according to documents obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundations (TheDCNF) Investigative Group.
Federal attorneys decided not to prosecute Arthemuel Panes Hernaez, despite his possessing around 1,000 pornographic images of children. Hernaez was later prosecuted in a local court but was only sentenced to four months in county jail after the judge feared a longer stretch could cost Hernaez his NASA internship. A federal investigator discovered that a NASA intern was downloading child pornographic material onto his personal laptop on Dec. 5, 2014, according to a NASA Inspector General (IG) report TheDCNF obtained through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.
Hernaez allowed investigators to search his laptop. They confirmed the presence of images and videos on the computer that appeared to depict naked underage children engaged in sexually explicit conduct, the report said. Investigators informed Hernaez that he did not have to say anything and he was free to leave.
I made a mistake. I will never do it again. I have child porn. Why am I not getting arrested? Hernaez told investigators. He confessed to downloading and viewing the porn and said he knew doing so was illegal.
The U.S. Attorneys Office for the Northern District of California declined to prosecute Hernaez, but the reason was redacted from the IG report. An Assistant U.S. Attorney encouraged investigators to seek prosecution through the Santa Clara County, Calif., District Attorneys Office.

So NASA is down with keeping an intern who downloads not just plain old porn at work, but kiddie porn??!!
Bingo!
Santa Clara County, Calif., District Attorneys Office is known to protect criminals by plea down deals so that they can avoid deportations and criminal prosecution.
Perhaps the intern's work was critical to NASA's muslim outreach program.
Zero tolerance for kiddie porn. Don’t care if the guy is Einstein. Needs to be removed from the gene pool. Yesterday.
This tells me NASA higher-ups are okay with child porn, maybe themselves involved.
FYI, he’s Jeffrey F. Rosen!
Agreed. No one in their right mind would think that the feds would prosecute him. Anyone who still thinks that we are a Nation of laws, not men or in Hillary Clinton’s case. women is a fool.
I suspect huge swaths of the whole government are involved in this hideous perversion.

Good comment. I laughed, then realized it may NOT be a joke...
This man should be banned from all GOVERNMENT JOBS effective immediately.
They prosecuted but he got a light sentence.
Maybe he lacked intent. /HEAVY SARCASM
When my father-in-law was alive he worked at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. He was a supervisor in the electrical department and worked on the shuttle mock up. He was very frustrated at how people could keep a job there. Nothing like downloading porn but he would look for guys and find out they had left the premises or would find they sound asleep for hours in other offices. All he could do was write them up but nothing was ever done about it.
I agree.
Disgusting.
