The US May Attack North Korea In Two Weeks
Market Oracle ^ | 6-3-2017 | John Mauldin

BY GEORGE FRIEDMAN : The US Navy has announced that the USS Nimitz will leave Bremerton, Washington, on June 1 for the Western Pacific. This is the third carrier battle group to be sent to the region—enough to support a broader military mission. It will take about a week to get to its station, after which it will integrate with the fleet.

So here’s the situation: Soon the United States will have its naval force in waters near North Korea.

It already has strategic bombers in Guam, and it already has fighter aircraft in Japan and South Korea.

The United States is preparing for war, which is still several weeks away—if indeed war actually breaks out.

Between now and then, diplomacy will intensify. The international community will demand that North Korea abandon its nuclear program. And after Pyongyang refuses to heed those calls—which is very likely—the US will have to decide whether it will strike.

The US Under Pressure

The US doesn’t want to strike North Korea. History tell us that all wars are complicated. Striking North Korea would require a particularly long and complicated air campaign, not to mention some potential ground operations.

And yet the United States is under pressure to strike.

The pressure comes from the thought that North Korea has deliverable nuclear weapons. Pyongyang may not intend to use them or sell them right now. The ultimate goal is survival, and having nuclear weapons deters attacks.

But no one knows what North Korea will do in a decade or two. And that scares the US.

Before we can have a cup of it, such a war will be over.

Seoul will get a lot of carnage but the Norkies will be toast beyond all recognition.

Good Lord! Three Carrier Battle Groups is an awesome force. But unless they are going to use nuclear weapons they can only conduct air strikes and blockade operations. Those don't win wars. They only make winning possible.

Look for the Amphibious Ready Groups and the heavy punch of the Army's amphibious forces. That will indicate the extent of our intentions.

If the NKoreans believe this, might they attack us first?

Are we going to hold them to their word, when, in two weeks, the USA doesn’t attack NK? Ask them why they are lying to create a panic to sell papers? Irresponsible, as all journalism.

Just what is John Mauldin’s military expertise so that we can have some notion of how much confidence to give his prediction of a full scale (including nuclear) military war within two weeks?

"Look for the Amphibious Ready Groups and the heavy punch of the Army's amphibious forces. "

Might those (already) be contained within the South Korean military?

There are no U.S. Generals or Admirals who believe NK can be stopped before inflicting significant casualties on SK.

The border is 160 miles of highly militarized artillery and rockets, stacked dozens deep and well protected.

We can’t drop bombs fast enough to stop the North from killing hundreds of thousands of allies, including our own troops.

Did I mention they’re too close for the nuclear option?

China had its chance and has done nothing visible to get Kim to cease and desist.

Ergo, with this massive naval presence, it is highly likely Mattis and Trump will take action soon.

I am surprised that there hasn't been a major stock market sell-off in anticipation of this event.
