It’s not their end..it’s the FLOTUS end I wonder about..you know the government gift versus who owns it..etc..
If she doesnt pay for it then it’s a gift. I can’t remember the details.. dollar amounts etc.. on gifts

“Mrs. Obama pays for her clothing. For official events of public or historic significance, such as a state visit, the first lady’s clothes may be given as a gift by a designer and accepted on behalf of the U.S. government. They are then stored by the National Archives.’’
Melania looked so good and presented herself so well I suspect she is going to be getting a lot of unasked for boxes.
Remember the yuuuuuuge flap over Nancy Reagan accepting gifts of designer clothes? Oy.
I think the Trumps can afford to spend whatever they want on Melania’s clothes... he happily does so, I am sure. Her look is so perfect. But I have to admit, I have an easy enough time spending $50K in a year on clothes, but $51K for one jacket is a bit much.
I’m sure the White House Counsel manages that effectively. As I recall the Reagan White House dealt regarding Nancy’s dresses also. I think hers wound up at the Smithsonian; I recall seeing some of them on display at the American History Museum.
One of the differences that may help with this is that everyone knows that Trump can afford to buy designer clothes and gowns..etc..
She can spend $51K on a jacket. There was some pushback about the cost being the same as someone makes in a year..but the pushback wasnt too bad.
Hypocrisy is a high art form practiced quite well by the loony liberals.
Saying the WH effectively deals with it wasn’t the point of my post.
I was wondering how it works..not that it works.
This is what I would like to know..for example...
XZY sends her a box. there is an outfit worth $5000 .
Melania likes it. Does she have to buy it or does it go to some museum after she wears it because it is a gift. So after 4 years does the Museum have a warehouse full of clothes? do the clothes get sent back after Melania wears it because the Museum doesn’t want a warehouse of clothes...etc.
The funny thing is that designer actually looked somewhat good on Michelle compared to the most of the ugly and terrible choices she usually wore.
Michelle didn’t always look bad..but trying to find good pics of her will show you just how many bad ones there really are..
opposite is true of Melania.
Oh sorry. I misunderstood. :-)
I have to plead ignorance, not being a lawyer. However, I would assume that FLOTUS would not be able to keep those articles of clothing, since they would be considered gifts. JHMO. I’m thinking she’d be required to pass them on to some historical org like the Smithsonian.
Wish I could be more specific.
One thing is obvious, but you'll never get anything about it in US media. Melania took Italy by storm! Keep in mind she was brought up only a three hour car ride from Venice, so except for the mapmakers pen, she's Italian.
She always dressed appropriately. At the Vatican, she was the epitome of traditional and reverential fashion. In Sicily, it evokes thought of what it must have been like when a triumphant Cleopatra Selena and Juba paid visit. Italians like fashion and style, and Melania did it, with a top Italian designer.
Meanwhile, Michelle was seen visiting a cathedral wearing a torn pillowcase.
I gush. But this means something. Maybe it signals southern Europe breaking the shackles and escaping from Germany and its EU, which until now was winning WW3.
I really liked how she centered her collection around D&G but then used designers for an outfit from countries she was visiting.
It’s a good plan for future visits.
Just look at what happened with Mooch obama, she's out of the fashion spotlight for 4 or 5 months and Barnum and Bailey, her favorite clothier, goes under.
Tough I tell you.
FLOTUS’ taste is impeccable, she is a credit to the White House in D.C. and Fla.....I thoroughly enjoyed the two First Ladies,
America’s Melania and China’s first lady, Peng Liyuan exhibit a flawless picture of beauty and grace.

Oh my.
