He is angling to present himself as the moderate solution between DNC liberal extremism and Trump conservative extremism. (Note it feels odd to write Trump conservative extremism in a sentence!) It’s the 1992 Bill Clinton Democrat Leadership Council gambit. However this is not 1992, I doubt it will work!
