Alabama Republican Gov. Kay Ivey signed legislation Wednesday that protects Confederate memorials from removal or modification.
Specifically, the law bans the removal or modification of monuments that have been in place for more than 40 years, according to the Associated Press. Schools that have born an individuals name for more than 40 years can also not be renamed, and a commission must decide whether changes to memorials or schools between 20 and 40 years of age is appropriate.
Iveys signature comes following the Alabama Senates approval of the bill Friday. Republican Sen. Gerald Allen, the sponsor of the bill, blasted what he described as a wave of political correctness against monuments dedicated to those who, despite their flaws, were significant to history. However, Democratic Sen. Hank Sanders said Confederate monuments represent oppression to a large part of the people in the state of Alabama. Good for Alabama!!
Enough!
Georgia better do the same or the democrat Taliban will want to dynamite Stone Mountain.
No doubt there will be lawsuits in federal court to overturn this law.
This Yankee says, “About Damn Time!”
The crazies learned about destroying Memorials from ISIS
Totally agree...About time!!!!!!!!!!!
Good for Alabama.
This issue is one of the reasons I will not support Ed Gillespie for Gov. of Virginia, he’s a carpetbagger from New Jersey who will not stand up to the efforts to erase our history.
Another is he is a Cheap Labor Express stooge who supports the amnesty/open borders agenda of the Bush wing of the party.
Good
Virginia should follow.
“This bill is not about protecting discrimination. Its about making sure that we dont forget our mistakes and so thats why [Gov. Ivey] went ahead and signed this because its about protecting our history, not about protecting some peoples history as opposed to others. Its about protecting everyones history.”
That’s reasonable but may have problems controlling what happens to Confederate monuments that are not owned by the state.
Beau played football in Alabama in High School - so you know what THAT means...he’s STILL got the t-shirts! And I thought Green Bay Packer Fans were rabid fans, LOL!
However - I thought the Leftists were, ‘Champions of Losers’ (and I mean ‘losers’ in the kindest term when it comes to this.)
What’s up with them NOT wanting to laud the efforts of those - THAT WERE ON THEIR SIDE AND AGAINST A UNIFIED America IN THE FIRST PLACE? The Left has promulgated ‘slavery’ TO THIS DAY!
I’ll never understand their specific brand of insanity.
EVER.
dynamite Stone Mountain.

Pipeline protestors vs Mt. Rushmore
Reminds me of the unit from nearby Northern Virginia, The Laudon Co. Rangers. The descendants of the Rangers always assumed that their ancestors belonged to a Va. Partisan Ranger unit, like Mosbey’s Rangers. Actually, the LCR was a UNION unit, recruited to track down and eliminate Moseby and the other Partisans. Imagine their embarrassment when the facts came out.
That’s a beautiful site.
My people didn’t get here until after the civil war (1920s) but though we stayed where we got dropped (NY) they refer to us Staten Islanders as Rednecks anyway and I have always been very partial to the south!
Just don’t like anything over 75 degrees!
They should, but won't, not with McAuliffe as Governor.
“No doubt there will be lawsuits in federal court to overturn this law.”
There will be local governments that test this law by removing a Confederate monument.
And that will send that law to a court.
Yahoo! Way to git ‘er done, Bama.
