This is a technicality. He provided the footnotes, so he credited the source. There was obviously no internet to pass off other people’s ideas as his own. These seem like proofreading and editing issues.

However, this is an extraordinarily minor academic sin. CNN admits that he correctly cited all sources, avoiding the cardinal academic sin of presenting others conclusions as his own.

Yes, if he gave credit in the footnotes, maybe he is just not that great of a writer, or was just not following the rules about using quotes/quotation marks. I am not convinced that it was his intent to steal material.

I am also curious as to whether, of the 47 incidents discovered, how many of them are made up of just 2 or 3 words, strung together in the same sequence that someone else (or thousands of someones else) had done in the past.

I think I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt here.

My last name begins with X’Xxxxxxxx and it ‘drives me crazy’ to see it as Xxxxxxxx or X Xxxxxxx etc.. get so much mail with misspell, my ‘gathered’ up profile page has the misspelling marked down as ‘AKA’s...

Really screws things up when the ‘company’ has it in as X Xxxxxxxx and the alphabetization of it uses the first X as a’middle initial’ etc etc

Of course then the Govt comes along and asks why you changed a name on a report and it was THEM who changed it.
