Killing C.I.A. Informants, China Crippled U.S. Spying Operations
New York Times ^ | 20 May 2017 | MARK MAZZETTI, ADAM GOLDMAN, MICHAEL S. SCHMIDT and MATT APUZZO

The Chinese government systematically dismantled C.I.A. spying operations in the country starting in 2010, killing or imprisoning more than a dozen sources over two years and crippling intelligence gathering there for years afterward.

Current and former American officials described the intelligence breach as one of the worst in decades. It set off a scramble in Washington’s intelligence and law enforcement agencies to contain the fallout, but investigators were bitterly divided over the cause. Some were convinced that a mole within the C.I.A. had betrayed the United States. Others believed that the Chinese had hacked the covert system the C.I.A. used to communicate with its foreign sources. Years later, that debate remains unresolved.

But there was no disagreement about the damage. From the final weeks of 2010 through the end of 2012, according to former American officials, the Chinese killed at least a dozen of the C.I.A.’s sources. According to three of the officials, one was shot in front of his colleagues in the courtyard of a government building — a message to others who might have been working for the C.I.A.

You know...painful as it is to admit it...the Chinese take care of business.

Our American intelligence services have been literally emasculated by the likes of Brennan, Clapper, Obama, etc.

Would Obama have ordered this type of action against Chinese agents?

Hell, no!

I like to think Trump would and will, but can you imagine the hell raised if he did!

Well if they did Kill our agents it wasn’t because of hacking. Obama gave the Chinese government as strongly worded letter telling them to cease and desist hacking...

This is very possibly the direct result of the data breach at the US Office of Personnel Management where all of the personnel information of those with a security clearance was heisted by the Chicoms.

Assigned in 2009 to an Army unit in Iraq as an intelligence analyst, Manning had access to classified databases. In early 2010, he leaked classified information to WikiLeaks and confided this to Adrian Lamo, an online acquaintance. Lamo informed Army Counterintelligence and Manning was arrested in May that same year. The material included videos of the July 12, 2007 Baghdad airstrike, and the 2009 Granai airstrike in Afghanistan; 251,287 U.S. diplomatic cables; and 482,832 Army reports that came to be known as the "Iraq War Logs" and "Afghan War Diary". Much of the material was published by WikiLeaks or its media partners between April and November 2010.

Why didn’t Obama cut off relations with China? Slap them with sanctions? Investigate any politicians who had dealings with their government?

This is far more serious than hacking a DNC computer.

“Why didn’t Obama cut off relations with China? Slap them with sanctions? Investigate any politicians who had dealings with their government?”

Why didn’t President George W Bush do the same in April 2001 when a Chinese military fighter aircraft crashed into a US spyplane in international airspace, damaging it to the extent it was forced to make an emergency landing on Hainan island? The 24 American crew members were detained and interrogated by Chinese authorities for ten days until the US government published a letter stating it was “sorry” the US aircraft entered Chinese airspace when making the emergency landing. The Chinese refused to allow the damaged aircraft to be repaired and flown off the island.

George W. Bush was as weak as Barack Obama when it came to responding to Chinese provocations.

Bammy wasn't the one who opened the door to China or made them the "Most favored nation" in trade. Most of "our" companies do business with the enemy; and, all of us must support our enemy for want of American products.

We are a Nation of fools, led by fools.

Comey tells us she didn't intend to leak anything, she was just "extremely careless."

Donald Trump can insist on bringing in obama for questioning. Let him stew in a cell block while it takes months to put together questions.
