It’s easy to get depressed that we’ve all but lost the battle for fiscal conservatism, but look on the bright side. The battle for social conservatism is … no, looks like that one’s pretty much a rout too.
One of the Internet’s recent misfortunes is the explosion of overheated liberal takes about the resemblance of modern American culture to “The Handmaid’s Tale,” the series on Hulu about a Christian theocratic takeover of the country in which women are enslaved by the patriarchy. Behold the state of the looming theocracy, via Gallup:
Of the 19 issues tested, not a single one has moved towards the traditional social conservative position since Gallup first began asking about them in 2001. Thirteen of the 19 have seen opinions grow more liberal/libertarian over time — among them biggies like premarital sex, single moms having kids, doctor-assisted suicide, and gay and lesbian relations — and six have seen no significant change. For some reason they haven’t yet added legalizing marijuana to their list of cultural hot buttons. If you want to toss that one in there, it’s another win for the liberal-tarian position. And there’s every reason to believe that some numbers will continue to shift. With pornography and social isolation ubiquitous in the Internet age and younger Americans who oppose the death penalty and medical testing on animals replacing older adults who are more supportive of those practices, it can’t be very long until porn passes capital punishment and animal testing in acceptability. Within 15 years, the only sex/marriage issues that may lack majority moral approval are adultery and polygamy.
The silver lining for social cons is abortion, which has barely budged since Gallup first began testing it 16 years ago. It stood at 42 percent acceptable back then and stands at 43 percent acceptable today. A life-and-death issue this politically supercharged may simply be not all that susceptible to movement over time. Pro-lifers should take heart that, unlike with so many other issues, the needle isn’t moving left on this as senior citizens die and millennials take their place in the adult population. The kids are alright on life — so far.
Exit question: Abortion is significantly more morally acceptable than “cloning animals”? Um, what?

After an EIGHT year assault on ANYTHING descent we still have a minority on abortion thinking it’s A OK.

What is the meaning of high/low on this? How is one at 58% “low” but another at 57 is “high”?

Imo, the wool has been pulled far enough off the public eyes re: these polls and social statisticians that it’s foolish to continue giving them any credence at all.

Maybe so. But it is shocking how much alternative lifestyles have become acceptable, even among self-styled Christians. It is far more than just “tolerance”, but rather full-blown acceptance, celebration etc. Our pulpits are mostly silent on these issues - another problem. And again, the government school system actively promotes this trash. We could turn this around within a generation if Christians would be willing to leave the government school system and either home school or private school.
It actually is. Especially when you realized these kids had been brainwashed from K on. 57% don’t find it moral to approve of abortions. Wow.
I’ve been noticing this trend, and I think it’s excellent.
One of these days we may be seeing the approval numbers in the 20s.

One thing here. In some ways this generation I think many think of as immoral, has some rather strong hi-points related to some moral tenets.

On the most important issue, Abortion, more than half the Country consider it Evil, and probably half the 43% want limits to Child Murder.
High means it’s the highest percentage for that item since the poll began in 2001. Low means it’s the lowest percentage.
And how many are Catholics in name only who don’t give a fig about the teachings of their faith? Congratulations Teddy Kennedy, Mario Cuomo, Nancy Pelosi, the Church hierarchy et al!

This is a result of having a liberal, God-hating bastard in the White House for 8 years. Presidents influence a nation’s views on issues - for better or for worse. That’s why President Trump will very likely have a much more positive influence on the US.

It is NECESSARY to take back the “education” of our OWN children. The takeover of all media, news, and schools and churches by the sodomite Marxists in the 30s are destroying the minds of the children-—so they grow up and have no virtue.

Virtue is essential to the flourishing of any culture and VIRTUE is embedded in children only by a moral culture and a loving mother and father. The Natural family was deliberately destroyed so that strangers could warp and destroy virtue formation in our little children -—with the help of the “TV” which destroys intellectual development and normalizes vice, and the creation of mandatory “education” which was nothing but an ‘indoctrination into satanism’ system—to create ignorant morons who “feel” everything—do it if it “feels” good and are embedded with a socialist (slave) worldview.
Again, I do not believe that to be true.
The reaction to Target and it’s bathroom shenanigans, and the Chick-Fil-A reaction points fair solid to the degenerates that are assumed to be growing into a majority are, in reality, a very vocal very small minority.
The rest of those that seem to be dropping down the moral slide are mostly just trying to go along to get along and not doing any real thinking on the issues at all.
Once it stops being trendy, and that’s not far off as the rage keeps building to an eventual full scale eruption, the problem will self correct with a quickness.
