‘The unfortunate thing about Macy’s’: Just about everything
Washington Compost ^

Macy’s, it seems, can’t catch a break.

The beleaguered retail chain, which has been aggressively closing stores in recent months, announced more bad news Thursday: Sales were down in the first quarter of the year, leading to a 39 percent drop in profits.

As a result, the company’s stock price plunged more than 16 percent Thursday, to its lowest level since 2011.

>>More than 728,000 people signed a Moveon.org petition calling on Macy’s to ditch the Donald — to sever its ties with Donald Trump, the real estate mogul-turned-celebrity designer-turned-Republican presidential candidate.

>>And Wednesday morning, the national department store chain announced that it was doing just that.

>>“Macy’s is a company that stands for diversity and inclusion,” the company said in a statement. “We have no tolerance for discrimination in any form. We welcome all customers, and respect for the dignity of all people is a cornerstone of our culture. We are disappointed and distressed by recent remarks about immigrants from Mexico. We do not believe the disparaging characterizations portray an accurate picture of the many Mexicans, Mexican Americans and Latinos who have made so many valuable contributions to the success of our nation. In light of statements made by Donald Trump, which are inconsistent with Macy’s values, we have decided to discontinue our business relationship with Mr. Trump and will phase-out the Trump menswear collection, which has been sold at Macy’s since 2004.”

Yup, and they were doing the gay thing a couple of years ago.

The Trump Curse.

Don’t mess with the American public.

Look at the boycotts. NFL - down 10%+. ESPN tanking Disney stock. Macy’s. Target.

They want to ridicule “Podunk USA” but we got the buying power and the numbers.

Nothing to do with Trump.

Whole retail sector plunged today. Investors are accelerating their exit from retail based on poor performance due to market problems, not political issues.

I really liked Macy's. Nice quality. Clean. But haven't been there since they dropped Trump

Yes, the retail sector has its challenges, but pissing off 50% of your potential customers is just asking for trouble...they asked, they got it....good riddance.

I wonder how Macy’s is doing in the Chicago area. I recall there was great anger when Macy’s holding company acquired the Marshall Fields chain in Chicago, and it was decided to turn the Fields stores into Macy’s. I understand that they lost a big customer base there when they did that.

And they did the same in other cities , where they acquired local department stores and turned them into Macy’s.

I used to really like Macy’s. If they didn’t have what you wanted in stock, they would find it for you at one of their competitor’s stores. They were known as the helpful store...the friendly store, the store with a heart...the store that placed public service ahead of profits.

(And, consequently, they made more profits than ever before.)

I have a great idea! They make Colin Kaepernick their new national spokesman, and build a saturation ad campaign around him!

Can't miss!

I don't. There is nothing special about Macy's. Their selection of Men's clothes sucks; particularly if you really want something to fit. Pretty much one size fits all crap. Dillards brought back some of their men's habidashery in recent years so it is improved there. I end up buying decent shirts at one store, dress pants and shoes at Dillards. Suits and jackets elsewhere. Nothing from Macy's.

Besides the Trump issue, I don’t shop at Macy’s because they cater to blacks and thugs and hip hop idiots. Those are not the clients that spend money.

Some people at these companies are completely tone deaf. Just like target catering to homos; they have no clue that that tickles .003% of the population pink, and the rest of us quit doing business with them.

I guess those 30 Million fraudulent votes for Hillary don't do enough shopping.

Wonder how many of them will show up for CW-II.

You don’t know Macy’s customer base, and consumers have short memories. It’s just wishful thinking.

The last time I entered a Macy’s was 1996.

I never shopped there so I opened a charge which gave me 20% off of that day’s purchases.

I bought 8 place settings of very expensive china ( a wedding gift) and saved a bundle.

I left the store, tossed the charge, and that was that. I never really liked the place.
