Do you ever wonder what tomorrow holds? Some people are pretty convinced that the future will be filled with flying cars and jetpacks and robot butlers. But here in the year 2017, I’m not so sure anymore. I have a suspicion that our future might be filled with more machine gun-toting robots, like the one seen above, than robotic butlers.
This particular robot is called a multi-utility tactical transport (MUTT) and was demonstrated by the General Dynamics Land Systems and the US Navy during an event at Camp Pendleton late last month. And despite its adorable canine-inspired acronym, it’s a killer. Yes, that’s a machine gun on top.
And yes, the barrel of the machine gun knocks the antenna on the vehicle, which seems like a design flaw at best. But who am I to judge? That robot will surely be my boss by decade’s end.

At least until jamming technology becomes more common, at which point they will become completely useless. Which could more or less happen overnight in today’s world.
It will also need human beings to change out the barrel on the machine gun.

Thousands of drones with machine guns could do a lot of damage.
Especially to civilians.
Then they’ll just add AI so they can operate independently to carry out their mission when jammed. What could go wrong?

No. The “land drone” will be the smartest member of the platoon and by far the most valuable. The drone will give the orders sending the human part of the platoon into the grinder...
We are already testing solar-electric helicopter gunships the size of a smart car that use AI. The know when to land to recharge, and how to hide when they do. They learn enemy movement patterns and can go out “hunting” for an hour every day before finding a hidden roost for solar recharging. They can be put in human-controlled mode or into fully autonomous mode. They already exist, and could be mass-produced tomorrow.
See my above about intelligent solar-powered mini helicopter gunships. They are already in testing, and it is purely a political decision to mass-produce them.
I think this stuff is designed for no other reason than a bunch of pin heads get to sit around and come up with catchy acronyms.
