SF is just as bad. Their hands are really tied. Most are like this guy, just doing their time to collect from the public trough. They really are just following orders types.
They’re all over. Even on jobs when you’re trying to do the right thing, count on most folks being willing to throw you to the slaughter to protect their own hides.
If you have an idiot in charge, then virtually all will conform to the idiocy. Often doesn’t matter if you’re trying to do the right thing.

Folks here can trash the two cops, but they told you in no uncertain terms, on video, that their inaction was because of their boss, the Chief.

The first officer clearly stated that the police were ordered to “stand down.” When asked, “How come you guys are hanging back?” he responded, “That would be a good question for the chief of police.” You cannot be clearer without violating the order to be silent on the issue. There are probably hundreds of cities in the U.S. with mayors and police chiefs who sympathize with the criminals. Remember Baltimore’s mayor giving people “room to destroy.” These officers were “only following orders.” Does that sound familiar? The Supreme Court may have ruled that the police have no duty to respond, however, there certainly are civil rights laws that are being violated. Have some compassion for these careerists. Hopefully most are patriots. I am a retired LEO and often had discussions with my coworkers about what we would do when the balloon goes up. There is a small minority who would shoot the own mothers if ordered. Some remarked that it would be the last order a supervisor ever made. If you disobey orders and step in the enforce the law that may be your last opportunity to do what’s right. You may be looking for a new job.
And if he is told to start rounding up the sheep for the slaughter, he will start rounding up the sheep. In short, he will do what he is told, when he is told, and how he is told.
I cannot honestly say that I wouldn’t have decked him at that point.
