Fox 13 in Tampa Bay, Florida had the same report on the 10 o'clock news last night. They said the shooter said, “God is great”. The 10:30 repeat of the same story on the same channel reported it correctly.

We use the term “God,” which comes from Old English and/or Germany. If we learned that the term had severely negative connotations, I wouldn’t have a problem using the term “Creator” or “Author” instead.

In my experience, when I hear “Allah Akbar” or “snackbar”, someone is dead or dying. “Heil Hitler” and “Banzai” are pretty much out of our vernacular because it’s associated to the death cults of Nazism and Imperial Japanese.How far we have fallen since 9/11.
