The GOP does not answer wake up calls.

Not do they do much else.

Agreed. They either don't know or don't care that Republican voters are fed up, but mostly not with President Trump. The Republicans in the HOR were given the golden opportunity to do what they've campaigned on and voted for when it didn't count for eight years. All they had to do is vote to repeal Obamacare, as they've done so many times. Instead they come up with RyanCare which was fake repeal of Obamacare.

What a combination of attributes. The majority of HOR Republicans are a blend of treasonous and a disgusting pathetic joke.

“The GOP does not answer wake up calls.”

True. The GOP is consistent in demonstrating it is incapable of effective leadership and governance. I’ve voted GOP for over 40 years as the least bad option. Out of power Republicans posture as conservatives, enjoy the perks of office and tell the voters all the wonderful things they will do if ever given a majority. Once they have the majority they enjoy the perks of office, push through bills designed to please the big money donors, and give voters hundreds of excuses as to why they can’t execute the agenda they ran on. Always promising fiscal responsibility, they are as bad as Democrats in running up deficit spending.

In contrast the Democrats do take care of their voter base and they do fight whether in the majority or the minority. They play offense. Republicans play a weak defense.

Once the GOP, under George W. Bush went on an earmark spending orgy and doubled the accumulated deficit, the GOP lost almost all of its credibility. This year, with fiasco of failing to repeal Obamacare, the GOP lost what little remained of its credibility.

For the individual citizen, voting is a meaningless exercise. Look at the performance of the government with the GOP controlling both the executive and legislative branches.

1. No Obamacare repeal and had it been repealed the replacement attached to the repeal bill was more of the same heavy handed federal government oversight and regulation of the healthcare market.
2. Meaningful tax reform is dead. Congress is nowhere. There may be not tax reform at all. Certainly no streamlining of the tax code.
3. Budgeting by continuing resolution is status quo. Business as usual instead of real cuts. Lots of noise and posturing about “planned” cuts but where are they? Annual deficits in the hundreds of billions will continue to occur.
4. Where’s the wall? Mexico isn’t paying and apparently the GOP Congress has no intention of funding it. Can’t build a wall with no money.
5. Trade. Back to business as usual. Chinese are happy after Xi’s visit. Where’s the renegotiated NAFTA? Where are the tariffs and fees?
6. Reign in Wall Street banks? Goldman Sachs insiders are running the US Treasury Department again.
7. No infrastructure bill. Again - talk, talk, talk.
8. Big new entitlement being developed — Ivanka’s childcare subsidy.
9. Planned Parenthood defunding? Not going to happen.
10. Entitlement reform. Who is even working on it?
11. Investigating and prosecuting corruption in the swamp. Investigations by the GOP Congress are a joke. Issa, Goudy, Nunes, Chaffitz love to preen in front of the camera but can’t make anything stick. The first thing Sessions does as AG is recuse himself from the Clinton investigations which means nothing will happen.
12. Foreign policy. Where’s the pullback from ongoing meddling in other nations and conducting war across the planet? Plenty of saber rattling and both North Korea and Iran are still doing what they were doing under Obama. It turns out the carrier task force intended to intimidate the North Koreans was 3500 miles away.
13. Thousands of key posts unfilled. Tough to battle the bureaucracy without people to lead the charge. Dismissed 46 US attorneys, not one replaced.
14. Immigration. No action by Congress. President’s executive order shot down by courts.

Accomplishments to date. A few regulations repealed or watered down. Gorsuch confirmed to the Supreme Court. I won’t celebrate Gorsuch until I see how he actually votes. We’ve been burned badly by a number of so called conservatives appointed by the GOP — Earl Warren, Harry Blackman, David Souter, John Roberts to name a few.

Ryan tells us they need more time to draft legislation even though the GOP has been running the House for over 6 years and the Senate for over 2. Yet recent history proves they can move when they want to. Congress drafted and pushed TARP through in a few weeks when their Wall Street buddies and the auto industry needed a bailout. The Patriot Act was drafted and passed less than 2 months after 9/11. Obama’s stimulus package in 2009 was passed quickly. The truth is, legislation they don’t want gets tied up in committees until it dies.

What has the GOP done to demonstrate to its own voters, much less the American people, it is capable of leading government? So far, the grade is “F”.
