The various services are super, however, I support the Marines above all others. They are often treated like the step-child, yet never act like toy soldiers. Let the chips fall where they may. I am very happy General Mattis is a Marine! We are seeing the results of his leadership.
......................................

I understand your loyalty. I feel the same affection toward the Army. But I will never laud the Army so as to even imply the other branches are lesser.

When I was a young Army buck sergeant, it was a combat-experienced Marine gunny who weighed in when some interservice rivalry was getting out of hand.

He told us that individuals of one branch who publicly trash the other branches are really only touting their own branch due to their own individual insecurities. And, he observed, those who did it tended to be marginal performers within their own respective service.

He said that excellence, whether personal or organizational, speaks for itself. It is only those who do not create it with their actions who must gin it up with their words. He was black . . . and added that was like racism, that losers always need someone to look down on to feel better about themselves and they hide behind their group membership to do it. And he said that when they do it, it is transparent to every mature person within hearing distance.

Finally he told us that it disrespects the heroism, loss of life and limb, and sacrifice by the families of those who serve and have served in the other branches.

And that he had never better hear it . . . or hear OF it again.

“Good news for this Marine.”

Only partially. He still has a felony record. That means that he can not get any job in law enforcement, any federal or state level job anywhere, and a whole host of other jobs requiring a background check or simply out of the question for this young man.

I find it incomprehensible that Governor Christie did not give him a full pardon, much less an apology. Frankly, Chris Christie is scum. He only did this because he was under pressure not to jail the young man. So while it is good that he is not going to be serving time, the rest of his life is still pretty much a ruin because Chris Christie doesn’t have simple decency or guts. How is this guy supposed to earn a living, when probably 50% of the jobs that he is qualified for are automatically out of the question?

We need National Reciprocity passed in Congress, now!

And not the watered down version that the Senate is playing with. Their version says that out of state permits are not recognized by residents of their home state.

We need NATIONAL right to carry for ALL!

Great stand up move by Christie.

Not a huge fan of the guy, but he sure nailed it here.

Full pardon! Now!

The vast majority of NJ Liberals live in the Northeast part of the state where Newark, Elizabeth, Camden are located. the rest of the state is far more Conservative and btw very beautiful.

NJ is called the garden State for a reason.

We visited my wife’s hometown in NJ last summer (I lived there for 8 years). Small town in north-central Jersey. The 4th of July parade was kicked off by a prayer and a speech. LOTS of little towns like that. Of course the key word there is “little” - and they get out-voted by the big-city liberals.

I understand that “excellence speaks for itself.” However, when everyone is thought of as excellent(Equal), there is no excellence any more. Excellence becomes average.
My favorite General of all time is George S. Patton. ARMY. I give credit where credit is due “in my opinion.” Some think him a blowhard or overrated, never recognizing his genius. I am entitled to my opinion. Patton said, “When everybody is thinking the same, somebody isn’t thinking.”

Unfortunately, excellence is disappearing thanks to the wimps who give out participation trophies so no child has to work harder, train more diligently, sacrifice play time for work or study time, and in general rise above the norm. It’s called “belonging to the group” instead of perfecting personal responsibility. That which made America Great, Personal responsibility, is being destroyed on all fronts in our new “everybody is the same” culture.
I will continue to pick and choose based on MERIT. Lauding my favorites is in no way disrespectful of others. It is expressing MY OPINION which will not be beat out of me by a cultural shift in this country.

Was this the looney-tunes enforcement by the state on some questionable trivial technical violation?

Thanks. I was thinking of a different case. NJ is nuts in regards 2nd Amendment. It’s hard to keep track of which crazy.

The code I am talking about is the excellence of the individual,p that does not hide behind a group membership and the excellence of the accomplishments by others in that oganization.

There is a warrior’s code that transcends branch. And there are individuals who steal the valor. I led great troops from every branch and also had losers from every branch. Every branch.

Thank you for your service.
Military History is my weakness. Some armys did/do not have the individual leadership characteristic which is/was inborn and encouraged in the American fighting man, regardless of rank. The Rhino tank comes to mind. Invented by a “nobody” when the experts were stumped, to solve the problem of the hedgerows of Normandy, France.
History is not always kind to the brilliant and is often far too kind to the dolt. Montgomery comes to mind. He is never blamed for his massive errors. Dieppe and Market Garden for starters, yet Patton is disgraced for slapping a single soldier.
Am curious as to your years in service.
