Charging Bull sculptor says Fearless Girl distorts his art, so he's fighting back

With hopes of dispensing the "perfect antidote" to the stock market crash of 1987, Italian-born sculptor Arturo Di Modica spent two years welding a 7,000-pound bronze bull statue designed to capture the resilience of the American people.

Under the cover of night and without a permit, he installed his massive Charging Bull directly before the New York Stock Exchange, a gift New Yorkers loved but New York City initially hated. Authorities removed it, but later reinstalled it under pressure at a small public park in the financial district.

In the 18 years since, it has become an institution.

Then last month, on International Women's Day, a new statue of a symbolically brave Fearless Girl stole its spotlight — and, Di Modica says, fundamentally corrupted the artistic integrity of his Charging Bull.

Just turn the bull around to face the other way.

An intersting test of artistic IP.

Does an artist not only control his piece of art but does he control the area around his art?

It seems they are simply two sculptures that coexist in relatively the same area, not unlike two paintings next to each other on a museum wall.

I like the "fearless girl" statute because it is symbolic of socialism trying to stop capitalism.

Look at the girl, and then look at the bull. Do you think Socialism can stand up to Capitalism? LOL!

She will get her ass kicked by the capitalistic bull.

“Fresno has a University?”

Fearless Girl should be removed on grounds of mediocrity of execution and stupidity of concept.

Entirely agree. Pedestrian, political, transitory and ugly. Sue and get it out of there.

Except that this is DeBlasio’s totally ruined NYC, so it may not be that easy.

I get why the Bull Sculptor would have objections, but he would be better off just ignoring the little cartoon girl statue. Otherwise, he is playing into the hands of the feminists, who love to blame “sexist men” for every worry in the world. I’m imagine they are already organizing some kind of march, where The Sisterhood can complain about the man’s complaining.

And you know anything untraditional Mayor de Blasio will be totally supportive of.
de Blasio probably doesn’t like the idea of a Bull being used in the first place. “You say Capitalism is ‘Bullish’? really? and at who’s expense? Minorities and women perhaps? That’s what I really want to know!”

Arturo not only has artistic talent he has some special operations skills. Can't be easy sneaking a 7,000 lb. statue in front of the NYSE even at night.

If I were the sculptor creator of the bull, I’d pay some homeless guy to take a power drill and drill the SJW Shrine. Or super glue Trump bumper stickers to it!

In reality, that would be Stupid then Dead Girl. Both statues are well done but to deliberately position one artwork to “interact” with another without both artists agreeing to it is discourteous. What if the bull’s artist had placed it in gore position without asking the girl’s artist?

Since the girl statute can be put almost anywhere how would the jerks who made it like it if the statue was moved under the bull in a teabag position?
