Lesson in life: Don’t be an asshole.

Is that on your to do list?

Seriously, this man was legally in the seat he paid for. United admits they were wrong to force him to leave. They have no legal ground to stand on.

The man did not raise his voice or make a scene. He declined to be forced to volunteer which he was legally entitled to do.

He checked with his lawyer before refusing to be sure he was in the right. So far all things a prudent person would do when they really needed to get back that evening instead of the next evening.

He said to the airport security officers, who also had no right to remove him (that's why they are suspended) "I am not leaving you will have to drag me".

That is being pointed to as an "AH HA" moment. It's a figure of speech used to show you really mean what you are saying not an "I double dare you" except in the schoolyard where these cops were apparently fixated.

There was no culpability in the passenger's behavior. He was protecting his rights not impinging on others. The airline created the problem, blame them. Your vindictive attitude and satisfaction that he got hurt is projection. Why are you taking satisfaction that someone who did nothing wrong got beat down? Could it be that you are what you want to label him? or that you are tired of being stepped on and not fighting back?

You must be trying for humor with your "“Why, if there were three airport security people on hand, was Dao left unattended, in an unconcious, bleeding heap on the floor?”

Because he was an asshole.

There is standard of care involved and criminal negligence statutes and there is no exemption for how you treat someone that you define as an ass*, you still go to prison if there are consequences of your neglect or lack of care.

......”air travel is miserable and dehumanizing”....

Well pick another course of travel or best you can get and refrain from those you especially dislike. The ‘choice’ is ours...

Heck standing in line for smorgas-board dinners isn’t exactly my cup of tea either.....companies seem to think that’s the way to go too....food is bad and the atmosphere is terrible....but goes with doing business unfortunately.

We just have too many people that think the world operates around them...by their rules of conduct.

Indeed. For that reason the last time I am required to fly for work is the last time I fly commercial.
