Sen. Cruz highlights danger of toppling Assad regime without a clear strategy
Conservative Review ^ | April 12, 2017 | Chris Pandolfo

Cruz, up for reelection in 2018, is back home in Texas on a “two-week listening tour” with voters. In an interview with NBC 5 reporter Julie Fine, he explained the problem with pursuing regime change in Syria without a clear strategy or end game.

"We are trapped between impossible options. On one hand, Bashar al-Assad is a monster. He has repeatedly used chemical weapons against his own citizens, against innocent men women and children. He is a bad, bad guy,” Cruz said.

“But on the other hand, the opposition – many of the rebels fighting against him – are radical Islamic terrorists. They are people like al-Qaeda, al-Nusra terrorists. They are even worse. They hate America and want to kill Americans.”

Sen. Cruz, prudently, noted that simply toppling the Assad regime without a clear long-term strategy could create a power vacuum that could empower terrorists.

"The worst outcome would be to topple Assad and to see those chemical weapons fall into the hands of ISIS or al-Qaeda, because if they have those chemical weapons they would use them against us," Cruz warned.

"I look forward to the commander in chief laying out a vision, presenting a plan to the American people, to Congress, about how we go forward and protect our national security interests."

That is the problem. Just what rebel group does our neo globalist President envision running Syria that would create stability and protect Christians, women and other minorities. A need for an American garrison? NATO steps up? Perhaps another 2-3 trillion dollars of American aid ( borrowed from China) to rebuild Syria. Please tell us.

Well, that’s kind of belied by the fact that we’ve fired cruise missiles into the country. Hard to say what might happen next. Hopefully shooting missiles is as far as it goes.

Well said. It is a black hole for $$$ waiting to happen if Trump flip flops on the “no troops” part.

And just as important, as Crus said ... “the opposition – many of the rebels fighting against him – are radical Islamic terrorists. They are people like al-Qaeda, al-Nusra terrorists. They are even worse. They hate America and want to kill Americans.”

Jared might be smart, but...I’ll be kind and say that his loyalties and political leanings aren’t yet entirely clear.

Just trembling. But be a good fellow and relieve my fears. Kindly explain just what the long term American strategy is in dealing with the Syrian quagmire. Tell the American people why Trump thinks they should own it by playing the definitive role. Somehow destroying an air base with 59 missiles , a Marine artillery unit deployed and many Special Forces in the country would seem to most that war is being in Syria. Did Trump actually get any money, military or even political support from our stalwart globalist NATO allies? While you are at it, explain how these actions will enhance the well being and security of the American people. Just how much human and material treasure will be sacrificed this time?

Not sure why everyone here seems to think that Jared is smarter than Trump and out smarts him regularly. He’s a young man who Trump feels he can use to his advantage (Who happens to be family which I’m sure is why Trump looked towards him in the first place). FR and the media have him as some boy genius who Trump simply can’t figure out and must listen to. MSM meme’s become FR memes so easily.

Well duh. Let islams kill each other until there are so few they die off. Modern governments and islam can not exist in the same space.

islam is like Ebola in a society...it kills it dead.

In so many countries, we’ve helped topple tyrannical dictators, only to get someone even more brutal who hates us even more. Will we learn from history?

Well, “duh”, Ted. That would be
Basic Topple-101, wouldn’t it?

“Strategy” will become the new trap laid for Trump, something useful to peck apart and peddle to the poodles on the Left and the RINO neo-cons, mostly cons in their own right.

In this era of overnight bubbling of crisis anywhere at any time, is it even possible to set your load in concrete, by producing some thesis styled Strategy that locks you in to futility, as it may never quite apply to the event of these quickly triggered crisis.

Striking the Syrian airfield so fast, spectacularly and precisely, last Thursday, was reportedly because it was a plan already put in place, and never shelved, under Obama’s generals. Mad Dog Mattis was privy to the plan, thus, it was carried out flawlessly. It was not baked from scratch.

Chances are slim that a “plan” for every conceivable crisis, however, anywhere and everywhere, could be possible. The Pentagon put that plan together for Obama, when he considered taking out Assad.

Cruz is going to find a camera every 9 days anyway, like clock work, to comment on some point or another to share his wisdom, which always centers on his re-election campaign.

Sadly, he has no competition to primary him. Turn out for his primary will be much lower, given his mask has slipped, to somewhere around his ankles.

Blast.
