LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan's capital city on Wednesday rescinded its decision to deem itself a "sanctuary city" protecting immigrants, bowing to concerns from the business community that the ambiguous, contentious term may draw unwanted attention to Lansing.
The City Council voted 5-2 to reverse course after last week's 6-0 vote to call itself a sanctuary. The term "sanctuary city" has no legal definition and varies in application, but it generally refers to jurisdictions that do not cooperate with U.S. immigration officials. Under Lansing city policy, police don't ask for people's immigration status, except as required by U.S. or Michigan law or a court order.
After the new vote, advocates in the crowd called council members "spineless" and said "you're all losing your seats."

They could jut be doing lip service/kabuki theater here, but still being a sanctuary city in stealth mode. They just stop advertising but they are still goin obe a sanctuary city.

Yeah, stop and think what “sanctuary city” means: refusing to help police identify & enforce world-standard laws regarding people who knowingly violated laws upon entry, have not been vetted for criminal background (and escaped any jurisdiction seeking them for cause), have not been screened for diseases (3rd world contagions we don’t vaccinate for anymore), hesitant to assimilate precisely because of their illegal status, etc. We have & enforce these immigration laws FOR A REASON, just like every other country.
Conservatism: the acknowledgement that some lessons were learned the hard way, thru great costs over long times, and just because you don’t immediately understand or agree with them doesn’t mean they’re invalid.
Leftism: the belief that the world should operate the way you think it should, regardless of your ignorance.
My bet is the city council was flat out embarrassed by the idiot mayor who appeared on Tucker Carlson’s show last week. The guy is a certifiable loon, and a dumbass.
What about East Lansing?
More likely they realized that these “newcomers” are a horrible drain on already-stretched resources, and they have little to contribute beyond keeping the government worker caste (especially public school teachers) employed.
Sanctuary cities may be useful when there are fewer of them. They’ll concentrate illegal aliens where ICE can find them easily.

He doubled down and went back on Tucker’s show tonight! He may have been mayor for 12 years, but I am betting this is his last term, unless he elects to retire.

Saw the idiot Dem Lansing Mayor on Tucker Carlson Wed. night.
As is typical for Dems, he ignored most of Tucker’s questions and just kept flapping his jaws with his talking points. Insisted that sanc cities weren’t magnets for illegals and that they did not cause a rise in the crime rate.

I heard on Jeff Kuhner's Show 680am Boston yesterday that the town of Salem MA is trying to go Sanctuary and the citizens are going the petition route to undo what the Council did. The signing process sounds like it is going well, they need 3600 to get it on the ballot, and they are shooting for 5000 signatures.
My point? If the people in uber liberal Massachusetts have had it and start a ground swell, and realize they can do it when does this little flame become a prairie fire and sweep the nation.
