Translation:
1999 - 0.085% of white males were “deaths-of-despair”
2015 - 0.196% of white males were “deaths-of-despair”
1999 - 0.024% of white females were “deaths-of-despair”
2015 - 0.115% of white females were “deaths-of-despair”
In other words, after 15 years, the rate went up:
A little more than 0.1% for white men.
A little less than 0.1% for white females.
I just checked the historical USA death rate for most of the years in the study.
Almost every USA agency publishes different numbers.
Anyway, I used the CDC Vital Statistics web site.
Between 1999 and 2015, the total USA death rate per 100,000 went from 880 down to 820.
I think the Brookings Institute really had to torture the numbers to get a 130% and 380% increase in “deaths-of-despair” for white males and females.
