President Donald Trump has picked an economic advisor who believes in growing the nation’s economy by importing workers and consumers, and by expanding free-trade outsourcing, despite Trump’s “buy American, hire American” campaign promises. Kevin Hassett is slated to become chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors if he is approved by the Senate’s banking committee. If Hassett is confirmed, that will be a win for the corporatist, business-first faction in Trump’s White House, which fights for influence in the Oval Office against the populist, America-first faction that helped Trump win the election in November.

Name the last president who actually listened to his council of economic advisors.
He’s an expert on tax policy, that’s why he’s there.
Gore came in and advised Trump on global warming.
Trump is in the process of dismantling the government infrastructure to address the issue.
Trump listens to all sides, but he seems to pick our side on issues.
We should wait to see how it goes. Trump has done a lot of good, and I think he’ll do a lot more.

Have to agree with you on that. Like some, I think, I’m not knocked over with glee about some of Pres Trump’s picks, but one thing that cannot be argued about any of them, they have been picked for their subject matter expertise. They’re not going to be allowed to implement their own fantasy policies. They’re there for a reason. To get a directive from the President and figure out how to best implement it.

As long as Jeff Sessions and Stephen Miller remain in place, I am not worried about immigration issues.
Immigration not going to be his job.
Probably he is pro LEGAL immigration within Trump’s guidelines.
Currently, according to the CIA Fact book, the US has a birth rate of 12.5 per 1000, a death rate of 8.2 per 1000, a net migration rate of 3.9 per 1000.
And that all adds up to a population growth rate of 0.81%
There is no wage inflation which means the is no labor shortage. 100 million Americans are not working SO GIVE ME A BREAK.
Without immigration, the US would have a negative population growth rate.

Can’t say I am surprised after Trump failed to honor his day one promises to rescind Obama’s executive orders and actions giving illegal aliens amnesty. Every day since seems to be more and more backtracking on immigration and H1B. Not ready to say he’s lining up a one-term administration, but sure not looking pretty for those of us concerned with immigration.
A country with no wage growth has enough “human capital” and does not need to import any, at all.
True. Add high unemployment to the mix as well. It is even worse than that given the lack of skills found in the majority of our immigrants. It is a fact that automation and robotics will decrease the need for unskilled labor in the future. Given that fact alone, there is a substantial argument against our current immigration policy. I continue to support immigration for highly skilled and educated people - that is a win for everyone. While I realize that flies in the face of what I agreed with you about, I am confident that people who have a history of accomplishments will find work somewhere and let the best skilled workers prevail. Competition makes everyone better.
