BELFAIR, Wash. - The man who was shot dead by a Mason County homeowner while showering Saturday was a paraeducator with the Northshore School District with no criminal record, officials said Monday.
The man, identified as Nathaniel Joseph Rosa, 31, of Bothell, may simply have been confused and in the wrong house by accident, said Ryan Spurling of the Mason County Sheriff's Office.
The homeowner, Bruce Fanning, 59, later told investigators that he didn't know the intruder.

How would you like to have a “para-educator” who can’t figure out what house he’s in—even when he steps into the shower—teaching your child in a public school???
I’m all for the Castle doctrine and all that.

Yep, when you’ve got a man who is wet, naked, and cornered in a space barely big enough to turn around in he’s probably not much of a threat. And if he is, you’d have plenty of time to make that decision after ordering him to come out.

Psychotic episodes are quite common among “educators” these days but I wouldn’t have shot him. Maybe just flushed the toilet to wake him up.

Let me guess, he was also an aspiring musician or rapper, who loved animals, loved his mother, and was a gentle soul who was working on getting his phD.
Did he deserve to die? Probably not. But I DO know typical, formulaic media BS and spin when I see it.
He should have simply called the police.

The guy who shot the guy in the shower is simply a dumb ass, and he is going to pay for his stupidity.
The guy who was shot...well, I would be concerned if he were teaching elementary school kids in some fashion. There was clearly something wrong with him, it could run the gamut from hypoglycemia to drugs, but something isn’t right there.

When I lived in Florida, and was fully armed, licensed, and trained, a neighbor in my apartment complex had too much to drink and mistook my front door for hers. She was pounding on it, screaming, and threatening me through the door. I could not see her through the peep hole, and did not recognize her voice, so I did not know it was my neighbor. She had her husband and grandson with her, and they were screaming and yelling at her too. I called 911, but I had my weapon drawn.
The police arrived before it got any worse. It took two Policemen, Two EMTs and the Husband to subdue her. The grandson was treated for a wound he received on his NECK where she raked him with her car keys.
Thank God I had a steel front door with a dead bolt.
New one for me. I guess it’s in a class with “paralegal” and “paramedic.”
