Germany Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel isn’t mincing his words. The pugnacious politician has called a NATO defense spending target being pushed by the US “completely unrealistic” for Germany.

“I consider it completely unrealistic to think that Germany will achieve a defense budget of over €70 million per year,” said Gabriel on Friday. “I don’t know of a single German politician who believes that is either achievable or desirable,” he added.

At a NATO summit in Wales in 2014, NATO members committed to working towards a goal of 2 percent of each state’s GDP being spent on their military by 2024. Currently only five member states fulfill this target. …

Well, Gabriel must not have heard what Ursula von der Leyen, the current defense minister, said to the contrary. But Social Democrats often have selective hearing. (I suspect he would not mind such military spending if not under the NATO aegis but under the EU name, with fingers crossed behind his back.)

They can afford 1,000,000+ refugees that rape their women, overburden their locals, will never assimilate and are unemployable but meeting treaty obligations is out of the question.

Just so we’re clear Deutschland, that’s what you’re telling the world?

I just love all of this. Trump has thrown a bomb into the German’s “defense outhouse,” and it’s raining “$hit and boards” on them. Go Donald!

Funny, I don’t know many Americans who think its achievable or desirable to pay for freeloaders who waste money on other things. You don’t pay for your neighbors hole in the roof when you see them carrying in big screen TVs.

70 billion not 70 million euros. Regardless, the pinkos in the SPD have been in bed with the Kremlin for generations. They have ZERO interest in defending Europe.

Germany's GDP must've plummeted badly since last night...anyway, Gabriel ("Siggi Pop") always was an idiot and will always be one.

Finally it is exposed for the farce that it is, the great and wonderful model of the world European welfare state has been subsidized by the US taxpayer long enough. We do the paying and heavy lifting on defense so they can have everything paid for and month long vacations.

Pay up krauts or defend yourself from the Russian bear. Although at this rate the camel humpers are gonna get you first because of your own stupidity.

Yep. And they are calling that refugee money “defense” spending. LMAO. Time for a BRAC and relocation of NATO facilities to Poland.

Well, it all depends on whose definition of “Europe” is meant. People like Gabriel will always conflate the continent of Europe with the EU.

One of the most infamous SPD members has to be Willy Brandt, with his fraternization with the USSR and the exposing of personal assistant Günter Guillaume as an East German spy that led to his resignation as chancellor in 1974. But he kept working for the left after that, as a member of the European Parliament (1979-1983) and the head of the Socialist International (1976-1992).

Hey Germany, there are a lot of nice places in Germany that Putin would like to relax at and put his feet up. Middle class America is tired of your freeloading ways and, if you won’t work to defend yourselves we feel that you are not worth defending.

You can always trust Germany to rant itself silly and stumble into armageddon.

If Germany doesn’t think it is necessary to spend anymore than they do now on defense, then why are we there, spending our money to defend Germany.

The left over there is doing this deliberately. They actually want NATO gone so they can replace it with their own planned EU military.

Never has Germany paid their full dues to NATO, but they money for immigrants and rapists. Deport some of those undesirable folks for which you spend NATO’s money! It is simply a matter of pirorities. Trump said NATO was outdated simply because the EU nations do not make their full contributions - socialists run out of other peoples money but keep spending the USD long after the Marshall Plan bailed them out.

That’s what they want. The lefties there have always tried to play reverse psychology games. No US presence, all the greater excuse to institute the EU military they’ve desired for decades. (And a modern-day version of Molotov-Ribbentrop would suddenly appear from nowhere.)

Yes, the “collision course” strategy hasn’t worked so well for Germany in the past 100 years.

It’s language confusion.

German “millionen” = American “billion”.
