Trump wants to roll back progress against climate change. He’s going to fail.

Few of President Barack Obama’s achievements seem more imperiled from President Trump than progress in combating climate change. To avert catastrophic climate change, the broadly accepted goal among climate scientists is to stay below two degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) of warming over preindustrial temperatures. By helping negotiate the 2015 climate agreement in Paris and setting up a regulatory framework for fossil fuel emissions domestically, Obama created conditions that are necessary, but insufficient, to get there.

The plan was for his successor to go further by increasing the ambition of Obama’s climate rules, cracking down on methane leakage and completing the reform of fossil fuel leasing on public land that the Interior Department had just begun. Now that’s all off the table and Trump is planning to repeal every environmental regulation he can.

Trump’s greatest threat to the global battle against warming is his attitude toward the Paris agreement. Without further domestic climate action, the United States was already at risk of not meeting its emissions targets under Paris.

Trump’s election dealt global climate progress a major setback, and that will be all the more true if he wins reelection in 2020. The narrow path to staying below 2C has gotten narrower still. But hope for the saving the Earth is not yet lost. Climate hawks have lost a battle, not the war.

Paris not ratified. There are no target emissions goals to meet.

Obama created conditions that are necessary, but insufficient, to get there.

If they were insufficient, what good were they?

Obama had no authority from the Senate to enter into the Paris Agreement. His signature was a nullity.

Ben needs to go back to Gov101.
All three branches of Gov need to sign off for a suggestion to be come law.

Come to think of it...Paul Ryan needs to figure this out too.

RE: progress against Climate Change

So many unproven assumptions in one statement.

1) Has he proven that humans are responsible for any global change in Climate?

2) Has he proven that any change in Climate today has not similarly occurred in the past prior to the advent of fossil fuels?

3) Has he proven that anything we do today (including damaging our businesses by increasing cost and regulations ) can affect the climate at all in a significant way?

If he hasn’t shown or proven any of that, in what way has any “progress” been made? They could all be considered “regress”.

Fedzilla has the largest carbon footprint of any organization on Earth, and the least to show for it. Trump will be the greenest President in history if he puts Fedzilla on a diet, sends the illegals and H1Bs back to their low carbon home countries, and boosts American manufacturing so the things we buy do not ship all the way from the dirty backside of the planet.

Leftists like to try to control behavior in their futile attempt to eliminate all the the risks and bad things in life. But where did they get the notion that they can control the climate?

It’s all such total b.s.

Nothing is needed, and nothing proposed would actually make a difference anyway.

No positive value, just a global takeover of every economy by globullists.

The pure definition of leftist global statist bull.

Trump wants to <—opinion from people who have not the slightest idea of what Trump is, was, or wants to do.

roll back progress <—there is no evidence that Climate change exists, thus no move can be said to roll back progress against or advance the cause of CC

against climate change. <-—subtle dig at Trump, standard issue from the left.

He’s going to fail. <—judging by the accuracy of various WaPo articles, this should statisically be another snafu.

One sentence, four turds.
