Former U.S. Sen. Jim Webb announced Tuesday night that he will not accept a Naval Academy Alumni Association award because of recent protests from other alumni....

... it is clear that those protesting my receipt of this award now threaten to disrupt the ceremonies surrounding its issuance," Webb said in the statement.

Now you cannnot be a "distinguished alumnus" if you hold politically incorrect opinions. This is what our country has come to.

The libtards were planning to disrupt the event, apparently. Webb decided to try to head off the mess by withdrawing.

I’m no fan of Jim Webb overall, but he has been one of the only national Democrats able to raise a few issues from a different point of view. This little fuss pertains to an article he wrote arguing against women in the service academies, decades ago. One doesn’t have to agree with him to think it was an important discussion to have, but ofc the rabid libtards don’t believe in free and open discussion.

Sounds like Jim doesn’t like to upset his fellow Democrats

Let's hope the pace is accelerated.

I was somewhat disappointed with Webb’s use of a literary device bordering on pedophilia in one of his novels.

Webb served under Reagan and was an R until 2006, according to Wikipedia. I believe he endorsed Trump? I get that he didn’t want to be disruptive by attending, which I respect.

I am mostly against women serving alongside men in close quarters or in combat. The policy change was step 1 in the feminization of the military. I am not an interventionist at all, but military needs to be focused on their mission, not social engineering.

Heck all I see is the GOP going berserk with each other, over healthcare.

Which isn’t even a foremost issue, in my view.

We need a strong southern border, a wall. Which cannot be simply overturned by another president’s edict.

And we need to return manufacturing greatness to America, where it was one short generation ago.

THEN we can worry about the healthcare mess.

Not until we have a strong jobs market once again, though.

President Trump is refusing to dine with press jackals.
Does that make him a coward? You’re all wet.

Webb, who also served as secretary of the Navy, wrote the 7,000-word essay “Women Can’t Fight” for Washingtonian magazine in 1979. He wrote that that presence of women “at institutions dedicated to the preparation of men for combat command is poisoning that preparation.”

Webb called the opposing alumni a “small but vociferous group of women graduates” and said Tuesday it is “particularly ironic to see that these same women who are criticizing me for a magazine article in 1979 have benefited so greatly from the policies I unilaterally put into place in 1987.”

“While this article was controversial, many of these protests have wrongly characterized my reasons for having written it, my views of women and also my record of government leadership in addressing opportunities for women in the military and in our society,” Webb said in a statement.

Read his book, “Fields of Fire” for an inkling of what he went through in Viet Nam.

in Vietnam. He served as a platoon commander with Delta Company, 1st Battalion 5th Marines. He was awarded the Navy Cross for heroism in Vietnam, the second highest decoration in the Navy and Marine Corps. Webb also was awarded the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, and two Purple Hearts.[16]

He is a conservative democrat and dropped out of the race for president because he couldn’t support the extreme policies of the DNC.

His book, Fields of Fire is highly recommended: No wonder he is hated by the liberal Democrats.

Quote “A lot has been said about style, etc. that I agree with & won’t repeat. Suffice to say James Webb was a platoon commander in Delta Co./1st Battalion/5th Marines: I was a grunt (said with pride) in C/1/5. When I first opened this book back in late ‘70s and saw the map of the An Hoa basin - the “Arizona territory”, Go Noi (No-go) Island, Liberty Bridge, the Phu Locs - the hairs on my neck stiffened, and then I let out an “Alllright!!” (scared a few bookstore patrons, nbd).

When you’re reading this you are walking down the same trails, setting up ambushes in the same spots, taking fire from the same tree-lines that Lt. Webb and this young (then)PFC walked & fought from. Hell, it was like goin’ home for a visit!

I had the chance to meet James Webb during the dedication of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and thank him for writing this personally. He still had the look in the eyes: quiet, deadly calm, with steel-trap analytical processes going on upstairs. At his swearing-in ceremony for Secretary of the Navy (he remembered this grunt from two chance meetings & sent me an invitation!), as soon as he was “official”, he stopped the show, called up some of the men who had served with him back in An Hoa, and gave them the medals and commendations he had recommended so many years before but had never been given to them. Outstanding!

Jim has the courage of his convictions that he later resigned rather than acquiesce to a polically-motivated evisceration of the Naval service he was entrusted with. He exemplifies the Marine officer - I know of only one other, a Lieutenant in C co, that I had as much respect for, and sadly he didn’t make it out alive. He’s the real deal: this old grunt would assault the fire-and-brimstone-beaches of hell if James Webb was commanding!”

Quote “I was somewhat disappointed with Webb’s use of a literary device bordering on pedophilia in one of his novels.”

Webb was writing about practices that were common in the Vietnamese culture. As a merchant marine, I often spent the night in the hootch with a Vietnamese family at Cat Lai when I missed the last launch back to the ship. I remember seeing the brothers and sisters of a very young infant jiggling his genitals to get the kid to laugh and smile. Something that would be unthinkable in our culture.
