Sorry, Army. I can’t tell you how many 19 year old single mothers I have seen, in the ER (again) instead of at morning formation. Especially on Monday. I have seen a full strength battalion of them at 6 months in, E3, with a medical chart in 6 volumes weighing 50 lbs. Thank you Patsy Schroeder. Meanwhile, I have done at least one 06 retirement physical after 30 years where the previous entry in the chart was literally his induction physical. 5 or 6 sheets of paper in the whole chart.
The proposition that we can afford to give “the poor” all they want of ANYTHING is preposterous.
How much “healthcare” is purely defensive medicine? IMHO, there can be no monetary reform until we change the tort laws.
I’ve mentioned this before, but if anyone on FR saw what gov’t is paying to TRANSPORT patients (back & forth) to multiple per week dialysis treatments - everyone here would be bald from their hair flying off their head. This is ON TOP of the cost of the actual treatment.
It’s stunning amounts of money. These dialysis centers run 24/7, 365 days a year.
Just check out Logisticare and DaVita dialysis.
We Conservatives are becoming like the MFA poets.
MFA stands for Master of Fine Arts.
The MFA poets write for other MFA poets.
They don’t write for the American public.
They write for each other.
That seems to be what we Conservatives are doing.
You can have “free” healthcare, but it does have a cost.
That cost is slavery.

These are not fantasy prices — they’re real. They’re what you could have today, or darn close to them if we had a conversation about competitive markets in medicine. I didn’t pull these numbers out of my ass; they’re on a “concierge” site for a “direct care” practice in Michigan and none of them are being provided at a loss.

Are these post-generic alternatives too? Nobody seems to talk about the (added) costs of the FDA ‘saving’ Citizens from themselves\doctors: longer research\study period = higher re-coup costs\time. Let alone the ban on drugs from the EU that have been in use 40+ yrs.
There was nothing like visiting a Rx while in the EU (lost luggage), saying I needed X pills of Y for Z condition and they filled for the SAME cost here w/o a script....NEVER would have happened w/o a doc visit (more $$ & time).
The Left has convinced around 50% of Americans that health care is a RIGHT. No, it’s not in the Constitution, but when you can convince 50% of Americans that something (anything) is a RIGHT, you are close to winning the battle. When the SCOTUS found that the ‘fee’ for not having Obamacare was in fact a ‘tax’, the battle was nearly over. The SCOTUS ignored all the arguments from the Left’s attorneys (and IIRC Kagan should have recused herself, for having been in the mix when Obamacare was being created) that the ‘fee’ wasn’t a ‘tax’. The SCOTUS has the power to ‘interpret’, and read ANYTHING into EVERYTHING on which they rule. And the SCOTUS ruling Obamacare valid, gave the Left the power to implement it. I worked in the NHS in Britain.......those who want Socialized Medicine have NO IDEA what it is really like. If it ever comes to that here, I hope that people are quickly made aware that the taxes (10-15%) to pay for their healthcare, becomes the Government’s money to do with what they see fit. I sure hope the Government values each person’s life the way each person does........but that’s not how it works. The Government figures in your age and your current ‘contribution to Society’ in deciding whether or not you will get the care you need. The older you get, the less value you are to ‘Society’. Prayers that this speeding train can be stopped.....and soon.
“However, two years ago took the family to England and France for vacation.....Everyone I talked to only had positive things to say about their countrys healthcare”
Anecdotal here too, but in my interactions with Canadians, many firmly believe that THEIR socialized medicine makes Canada better than the USA, huge wait times and all (Canadian values eh?)...they would NEVER criticize it to an American. I just tell them that they’d better pray that the USA doesn’t go their route because they wouldn’t have us for an escape valve for timely treatment anymore.
You might find that they are healthy people who don’t use the health care system in Canada or Britain. Most people in Britain that I know, love their health care system because they have heard of numerous families losing their wealth due to health care costs in this country. The NHS in Britain is one reason that people in Britain aren’t able to accrue wealth, but they don’t get that. And healthy people think the system is great because they don’t have to use it....they just pay (in taxes taken out of your paycheck) for everybody else to use it. When I worked in the NHS in Britain, I was making peanuts as I wasn’t a registered technologist in their medical system (but they still let me work). I was making PEANUTS and my tax bite was 50%. That was the lowest tax rate.....and everybody who works pays taxes. But you never actually have to file your taxes over there. The Government decides how much you pay and then just takes it straight out of your paycheck (no deductions, no filings). Once a year, you receive a postcard telling you how much you paid, just in case you are curious.
