Texas Congressman Resigns From Freedom Caucus

The Freedom Caucus is down a member — Rep. Ted Poe (R-Texas) announced Sunday he has resigned from the conservative group.

"In order to deliver on the conservative agenda we have promised the American people for eight years, we must come together to find solutions to move this country forward," Poe said in a statement. "Saying no is easy, leading is hard, but that is what we were elected to do. Leaving this caucus will allow me to be a more effective member of Congress and advocate for the people of Texas." Poe is a former judge who has spent the last year fighting cancer.

Several members of the hardline group, along with a fair number of more moderate Republicans, helped sink the Republican's effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act

So what?

I remember Ted Poe being one who would only fly in whatever direction he thought the prevailing wisdom was blowing, irregardless of the prevailing winds.

This is smoke out time and I would just love it to see Secretary Price take away all of the special exemptions given to the ruling class just to get their attention. Go totally nuclear on the Dems and their silly rules meant to screw us, we the people.

Smash the Byrd Rule while they are at going nuclear on the SCOTUS confirmation, then get rid of the unelected Parliamentarian.

The provisions and amendments to this bill would fill five overloaded with paper contractor sized wheelbarrows. What the House should have done was pickout the most egregious regulations and toss them. That includes allowing illegals getting free Obama care and eliminating the exception given House members and their staffs participation. Both of which were ruled unacceptable by the Senate parliamentarian.

I've arrived at the point where I'll only be happy when “Weathervane" Ted Poe & his family are covered under Ryan Care. No more Cadillac Federal Employee health insurance for him.

Poe was the Freedom Caucus member who took the LEAST from the medical lobbyists and was obviously embarrassed by the fact that the Freedom Caucus is owned by the Trump hating Koch brothers and Trump hating Club For Growth.
Now millions of Americans will be forced to continue to suffer under obamacare but hey they can take comfort knowing they suffer for the Freedom Caucus’ “conservative principles.” Planned Parenthood’s chopped up babies will be proud to die for Mark Meadows as well I guess.

Question WHAT HAS THE FREEDOM CAUCUS EVER DONE FOR US?

They gave Mark Sanford a place to rehabilitate himself after he lied about hiking the Appalachian Trail, when he really was betraying his vows to

Jennifer Sullivan Sanford (born September 11, 1962[1]) is the former First Lady of South Carolina, heiress, and former investment banker.[2] She was married to Governor Mark Sanford, whose initial campaigns she substantially funded. On December 11, 2009, she announced that she was filing for divorce, after it became known that Governor Sanford had flown to Argentina to have an affair with Maria Belen Chapur, a 43-year-old divorced mother from Buenos Aires six months earlier. The divorce decree was granted on February 26, 2010. The couple's divorce was finalized on March 19, 2010.[3]

Mark Sanford is not like most Republicans in Washington.

His policy résumé is beyond reproach to those on the right: He was D.C.’s dashing fiscal hawk during his first stint in the House, and then, after term-limiting himself and returning home to South Carolina, he won the governorship, vetoed hundreds of measures from his Republican-led Legislature and gained fame by refusing to accept President Barack Obama’s stimulus funding in 2009. His political instincts are razor sharp: Sanford has never lost a campaign, which, joined with his ideological mooring, once made him a conservative favorite for the presidency. And his personal failings—namely, the infamous 2009 affair with Argentinian television journalist María Belén Chapur—appear to have been forgiven by the people of South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District, who sent him back to Congress in a 2013 special election before re-electing him in 2014 and 2016.

All this gives Sanford a unique sense of liberation to speak his mind about a president whose substance and style he considers a danger to democracy. “I’m a dead man walking,” he tells me, smiling. “If you’ve already been dead, you don’t fear it as much. I’ve been dead politically.”

His digs at Trump cover the spectrum. The president, Sanford says, “has fanned the flames of intolerance.” He has repeatedly misled the public, most recently about the national murder rate and the media’s coverage of terrorist attacks. He showed a lack of humility by using the National Prayer Breakfast to ridicule Arnold Schwarzenegger’s ratings on “The Celebrity Apprentice.” Most worrisome, Sanford says, Trump is unprepared for the presidency.

I see why you would support the weakling Poe. You actually believe the Senate would leave defunding Planned Parenthood in the House bill. If you believe that I've got a bridge.....

Ryancare has the support of 17% of the American people. The Senate would have made wholesale changes to AHCA if it had passed the House. NONE of those changes would have been "conservative."

Conservatism is nearly extinct in America and it seems to be dying here in FR too. Never thought I would see the day FR joins with Geraldo Rivera, John McCain, the Media, and the rest of the Swamp in condemning conservatives for standing up for what is right.

I wish the GOP wasn’t a dozen small factions.
The ‘Freedom Caucus’ wanted total repeal of Obamacare with no replacement. They are Liberarian leaning part of the GOP. The GOPe wanted a Obamacare Light.
I hope President Trump is right and Obamacare will now implode/explode.

I hope every member of the Freedom Caucus sends him a pu**y cap.

Saying yes is JUST AS easy, numbnuts!

:: leading is hard ::
Which has NOTHING to do with saying ‘yes’ or ‘no’.
And, so you run away from leadership?

That’s a Sanford quote from LAST month. Revealing to see the never Trump company these “principled conservatives” are keeping. They are getting played like a drum in this beltway kabuki theater by the usual suspects. How sad.

Thanks to the “conservative” freedom caucus we are going to get something even less conservative: Obamacare. Outstanding. There is something dying here but it isn’t conservatism. It’s brain cells.

Yeah, okay. You sold me. Ryancare, with its popular support of 17%, is the way to go. All hail the GOPe and the ‘Rats.

Have a nice day, Paul.

>>I wish the GOP wasn’t a dozen small factions.<<

I wish the GOP was the conservatives they pretend to be.

Not so long ago, their platform was lower regulation, smaller government, lower taxes, pro business, pro-America, strong defense.

Now, the GOP has to be dragged into doing anything conservative, with the exception of “The Freedom Caucus”.

>I wish the GOP wasn’t a dozen small factions.

Anyone expect anything else when all that matters is being a ‘big tent’ and “WINNING” vs. set of core beliefs to defend. Never see the DEMs so fractured; they want to further Socialism....what’s the (R) done, aside from assisting the (D)?

That type of thinking is sure to get you kicked out ;) Them (L) types are KOOKS....least, that’s what many here say.

Doesn’t matter the (R) have supported more\worse than the tenants of the (L): ‘drugs’ ((R) love them some control, Constitution be damned), ‘abortion’ ((R) have yet to defund PP or reigned in the Judiciary), ‘open borders’ ((R) did nothing post-9/11\dreamers\etc. (L) would gut welfare\min wage...so borders ‘issues’ would back-burner automatically). IOW: (R) love to nibble around the edges, but (L) are still the ‘bad guys’.

17%? The beltway swampers you support just made the wall a lot harder to build. Congratulations. You really are having a hard to time seeing the forest through the trees, FRiend.

Depends on who you think represents FR. The loudest voices? The most incessant posters of division in our ranks?

I suggest that Jim Robinson's most recent posts provide the most authoritative voice for FR on these subjects. He can still unplug the website if he chooses. That's pretty authoritative.

Good riddance. This country does not need a squishy centrist afraid to fight for conservatism and who wants to champion a horrible bill that would entrench socialism for decades.
