We were willing to wage war while losing many of our own in the process, plus inflict some serious damage to win. Anyone hear about Omaha Beach?

The Bad Guys purposely position themselves within the civilian population betting that we wont risk killing civilians to get them. That is what we used to call collateral damage in previous wars where civilians who were caught up in contested areas either fled before the conflict or risked their safety. If you want to WIN, some civilian casualties are going to happen. That is why they call it “WAR”.

Curtis LeMay, a call for Curtis LeMay.

“Killing Japanese didn’t bother me very much at that time... I suppose if I had lost the war, I would have been tried as a war criminal.”

As long as Mathis continues to believe there is some version of Islam that is being perverted - do not count on him to come up with any strategy different than what has gone before. Because of his erroneous belief, against Islam, Mathis will be ineffective, no matter his past record as a warrior. He will be eaten.

Rescuers were still pulling bodies from the rubble on Saturday, more than a week after the bombs landed

I hope they didn't bomb a cemetery. There's an old joke about a small plane that crashed in a cemetery -- weeks later they were still finding bodies at the crash site.

I believe this is one of the reasons Flynn had to go. He didn’t suffer from the ‘going asiatic’ syndrome as most generals who’ve spent time in the sandbox, ala NSA H.R. McMasters and Secretary Mattis. Too many sit downs with tribal leaders, kings, and Saudi princes.

Newest figures by German commission indicate 25,000.

Gee, you sure it wasn't just a couple of thousand?

We firebombed Dresden because the Germans had started with the Battle of Britain, the Blitz.

NEvertheless, they attacked with high explosives to bust open all the gas lines, and then came later with incendiaries to light that city up like a bonfire. The asphalt boiled and people on the street were consumed and then burst into flame from the intense heat.

“Must be getting pressure from the west to hold off a few days.”

It is most definitely Western pressure.

You are right, the Iraqi’s would not care one whit.

300,000 is a propaganda figure and no way near accurate. Newest figures by German commission indicate 25,000.

25,000 is the correct toll. The Germans were able to achieve and accurate count because most died of suffocation.

I do not personally regard the whole of the remaining cities of Germany as worth the bones of one British Grenadier.

The feeling, such as there is, over Dresden, could be easily explained by any psychiatrist. It is connected with German bands and Dresden shepherdesses. Actually Dresden was a mass of munitions works, an intact government centre, and a key transportation point to the East. It is now none of these things.

The headline is what makes it for me. When ISIS or the Taliban does crap like this (deliberately, I might add), the Guardian will call it a ‘tragedy.’ So will the US press, being leftist itself. ‘Atrocities’ provoke pushback in the form of the urge to do something about it. ‘Tragedies’ are a clarion call for yellow ribbons everywhere as if you can yearn your way to victory.

Churchill was a madman, and the firebombing of Dresden was his revenge. It had nothing to do with war, it was simply a pleasure to kill women and children to him. He was as war hungry as Adolph ever could be.

Amen to both of you.

These people will never hold their country against fanatical, committed attackers asl ong as they feel this way.

ISIS kills tens of thousands, wit atrocious methods of all types.

They own a city and are embedded within the population.

If you want the city, you are going to have to break it and go through there and liberate whomever you can...and a lot of people are going to die. It’s war.

IN World War II we bombed every major city othat the enemy held to rubble for the most part, although we did try and spare historical sites to dome degree...unless the enemy tried to use it as a stronghold.

Dresden, Tokyo, Stuttgart, Munich, Berlin, Bremen, Nagasaki, Hiroshima, the list goes on and on...an not just their home cities, but the cities of allies that they had taken over as we pushed tem back.

As I say...if the Iraqis go weak kneed over 150 civilian dead, they will never get their country back...and quite frankly, do not deserve to.

It is horrible...but the fault lies with the terrorists and fanatics who have put them all in harms way.
