Paul Ryan Is Solely To Blame For RyanCare's Demise

Health Reform: Friday's decision to pull the American Health Care Act from the House floor because it lacked enough votes to pass was a culmination of months of bad decisions, poor planning, and terrible messaging by the GOP leadership in the House.

This failure undermines not only the party's credibility, but President Trump's purported ability to "make great deals." Worse, it emboldens the left-wing "resistance."

Back in early December, we warned in this space that the Republican's ObamaCare repeal effort was "off to a bad start." That was when House Speaker Paul Ryan was talking up a "repeal and delay" plan that would have repealed pieces of ObamaCare while putting off a replacement plan for a couple years.

"This is a huge opportunity for Republicans to show that they can tackle the health care issue in a way that helps, not hurts, the working class," we wrote. "But it will require a concrete plan of action and the determination to stick with it. Something that, surprisingly, Republicans still seem to lack."

In the months following, things didn't improve much. Ryan's team repeatedly fumbled the ball, diluted the free-market message they should have been selling, and lost sight of the point of repealing ObamaCare — which was to bring down insurance costs for millions of middle class families who've seen their premiums skyrocket and their benefits diminish under ObamaCare.

Maybe someday enough people will accept that a third party is very much needed.

Paul Ryan did receive a $10K donation from Soros while most others in the Senate only received around $2K. Now we know why....

Earlier this week,I was listening to Glenn Beck, and he said that all Republicans are looking at Paul Ryan as the “savior of the Republican Party” this week. I wonder if he still feels this way.

Ten grand? Two thousand? That’s nightstand change. How do you buy a politician for ten thousand dollars?

There’s a lot more lobby money in Ryan’s pockets than that.

I contacted my 'R' Congress critter to let him know what I thought of the "leadership" and this bill. It is time to start warming up their phone lines/inboxes to let them know that their performance on this legislation so far has been a joke.

Couldn’t beat Joe Biden in a debate.

Can’t close a deal as a leader.

Somewhere I see a big L on his forehead

Congress passed the Restoring Americans' Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act in December 2015. All they had to do was to pass the same bill again and send it to Trump. Instead what we get is political theater with the insurance companies playing the music. Make no doubt about it, we need to get the government the hell out of the insurance business and let individuals pick and choose and pay for their coverage or not.

The 2015 bill would not repeal Obamacare in its entirety. Instead it went after some of the key features of Obamacare that are necessary to make the whole system work. It would:

Restrict the federal government from operating health care exchanges
Phase out funding for subsidies to help lower and middle-income individuals afford insurance through the health care exchanges Eliminate tax penalties for individuals who do not purchase health insurance and employers with 50 or more employees who do not provide insurance plans
Eliminate taxes on medical devices and the so-called “Cadillac tax” on the most expensive health care plans
Phase out an expansion of Medicaid over a two-year period
Ending federal funding to Planned Parenthood

All of that is good and headed in the right direction and already passed the House and Senate once before (albeit as a reconciliation bill).

Without the jokes, any informed predictions on what happens next?

Wasn’t there a second bill, one more conservative?

How soon can Ryan be voted no confidence?

Who would be speaker?
