Belgian police intercepted a car that was speeding toward a busy shopping area and refused to stop, authorities said Thursday.
The car, registered in France, was driving "at a very high speed" in central Antwerp, the Belgian federal prosecutor's office said.
French President Francois Hollande called the incident "an attempted terrorist attack."
"At different times, pedestrians were put at risk," the prosecutor's office said. "When soldiers attempted to intercept the vehicle, it fled."
Authorities eventually managed to stop the 39-year-old French driver and detained him.
Anouk Leemans saw police make the arrest.

In the BBC Article they're naming him as "Mohamed R."
"The suspect, a man of North African origin, was immediately arrested," he said... The federal prosecutor's office, which has taken over the investigation, named the suspect as "Mohamed R", a 39-year-old French national and resident of France.
Now, who would ever have thought that a guy with a traditional French name like "Mohammed" would ever have anything to do with terrorism?

I am confused. The vehicle was fleeing but they stopped an attack? It does not say in there it was attacking, just driving fast in a shopping area.
