Tattoo Removal Business Booming As Fears Of Deportation Mount
CBS San Fran ^

SAN PABLO (KPIX 5) — An East Bay tattoo removal clinic says they’ve treated a record number of clients since the election.

Some in the Latino community worry ICE agents will use their tattoos as an excuse to stop them and check immigration status.

The number of customers has doubled. Typically, people go in to remove an ex-lover’s name or get rid of tattoos for job interviews.

But the fear of deportation is a new reason.

“A lot of people don’t want to be a moving target or even seen as a target,” says Nora Ruiz of the San Pablo Economic Development Corporation. “And for fear that they might be seen as a certain type of person or judged in anyway, people want to get their tattoos removed.”

There’s no evidence suggesting ICE agents are targeting people based on tattoos but people with gang ties or criminal backgrounds are at risk.

It appears some people aren’t taking any chances.

I'm going to post a few of these.

If they offend you or you'd rather I not post them to you, simply say so and I'll stop at once. I know you said you don't like tatoos, but I thought you might appreciate the art work in these.

As I said, I'm don't care for tattoos, but some of the artwork is impressive.

Art should hang on the wall- at if sags after time- just tighten up the wire.

Thinking of the SS guys who, after WWII, tried to get their tattoo removed from under their arm. The removal was just as obvious and they got nailed.

IMO, the removal of these tattoo would be just as evident, and be viewed as suspicious even though, in some of these cases it was innocuous.

First it’s the tattoos, then goes the Tiajuana auto accessories. Bye bye chrome chain steering wheel. So long dingleberry visor embellishment.

I can see a real opportunity here for Average American Makover Stylists.

Two things I hate more than anything: Tattoos and Graffiti

_________

Me too! I hope we have people on the job to clean up the graffiti you just know will go on the wall.

When I lived in Denver, I helped start a neighborhood association. It was kind of a run-down area (we bought our 100-year old house for $33K). The first year, there was a drive-by shooting at the house next to us.

They also had a little girl, a toddler, who would walk around alone in just a diaper in the backyard in two-foot high weeds while her parents ignored her, doing drugs. (I called social services when I saw that).

Every Saturday morning, those of us in the neighborhood association would all go around and clean up graffiti. We did other things to improve the neighborhood, too. My husband and I also worked hard to fix up the house.

A few years later, when my Canadian husband got a job offer up here, we sold the house for $115,000.

Little efforts can improve things.

I hope we will have people to keep the wall clean.

One would think getting legal citizenship would be less painful.

LOL! As part of the radiation treatment process, I had to have three (and eventually a fourth) tiny black alignment tattoo dots made on me by the radiation tech. It’s just part of how they treat 3D flesh using 2D imagery to hopefully zap the right spot.

I remarked on several girls I knew who couldn’t wait until after MOS school to rock that first tattoo. I’m grateful I never got a butterfly on my boob or anything, cause you know that sucker will metamorphose into a praying mantis eventually. Luckily the tech was nowhere near with the inker for that one, or he’d have drawn dotted lines while he mulled it over...

Script: Many years ago I developed an appreciation of pencil drawings.

Some of the tattoo drawings remind me of the genre.

Wouldn’t it be funny if they found that tattoo-removal doctors were financing the establishment of tattoo parlors next door to bars?
