Dems Beware: Sanders Movement Turns to Midterms (wingnuts may 'primary' more moderates)

With Democrats facing tough prospects in the midterm elections, will they also have to worry about primary challenges from their left flank?

The path of Sanders' former staffers reflects the split in his movement, and the some are already galvanizing for the 2018 elections — and setting their sights on their own.

The more radical strain, which led hundreds of Sanders delegates to walk out of the Democratic National Convention in protest last summer, is still present on the left and emboldened by the loss of Hillary Clinton and their belief that "Bernie would have won."

A handful of groups that grew out of the Sanders movement have already begun issuing primary threats against Democratic incumbents.

One called #WeWillReplaceYou has warned specific members of congress it may challenge them. But it promises to use discretion in targeting only those Democrats it feels have strayed from the party.

This week, Justice Democrats merged operations with another anti-incumbent group founded by former Sanders aides, Brand New Congress, which started last year.

"The point is we've watched this party over the last decade lose over 1,000 seats, lose a national election to least popular nominee in history, Donald Trump, and now we've seen poll after poll showing the Democratic Party less popular since election day," Brand New Congress' Corbin Trent said in an interview. "What we think is the American people are ready for a new direction."

Justice Democrats' unusual approach lets anyone nominate potential candidates online. They say they've received 8,300 nominations so far and raised $1 million with virtually no marketing. And they claim a large group of volunteers with experience on campaigns who will help coordinate a central political infrastructure to support their entire slate.

The American Communist Party, that is.

Soooo..... Bernie becomes a Democrat for a few months to run in the Democrat primaries, and is promptly sodomized by Lil Debbie and Donna, then goes back to being an Independent. So is he meddling with the Dems again?

The Dems have signaled they want to be the Party of the extreme Left, so called moderates had better start working across the aisle OR they will have no friends.

This is amazing to think about in a way.

These Democrat activists look at the loss of so many legislative seats, governonrships, loss of House and Senate during Obama’s time, look at Trump’s victory — and they conclude that the problem is that the Democrats just haven’t been radical enough; that they need to push even farther left to succeed.

Hey, if that’s what they think, let them go for it......

Uh, Bernie strayed from the party. So far that he's not even a Democrat anymore, nor was he to begin with. "The Party" is the problem, and the stranglehold the establishment machine of the Democrat party maintains is what got Hillary the nomination, and despite her humiliating loss hasn't changed one bit.

This is interesting....

IMO, not that's it's worth anything, Hillary was the only Dem that DJT could have beaten. She just had too much baggage. No matter how hard the media tried, there just wasn't enough lipstick to apply to the pig.

That and she tried to run as a tough, take-no-prisoners, anything-you-can-do-I-can-do better feminist, while simultaneously hollering "No Fair, Trump is a Sexist!!" at the top of her lungs. The irony was too strong to miss by all but her most willfully blind supporters.

Had Trump run against Bernie, I'm fairly sure Trump would have lost. The media would have portrayed Trump as the Devil Incarnate - no change there - but Bernie would have been everyone's favorite Grandpa...maybe a little silly and forgetful, but charming, lovable, etc etc etc. Trump would have gotten his clock cleaned.

However, 2018 is NOT 2016 (hat tip to Captain Obvious). With a couple of years of success behind them, conservatives have something to run on, rather than simply running against the current administration. Dems appealing to their fringe, rather than running to the middle, will be a disaster....

.....unless Republicans manage to shoot themselves in the foot, and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. I'd not take bets either way. :-)
