The Board of Regents on Monday eliminated a requirement that aspiring teachers in New York State pass a literacy test to become certified after the test proved controversial because black and Hispanic candidates passed it at significantly lower rates than white candidates.

I can’t wait until they change the standards for brain surgeons, heart surgeons, and rocket scientists. It will be diversity heaven!!!
If you heard some of the foreign-born teachers I’ve seen in classrooms, or some of the black teachers I’ve seen in classrooms, you would feel bad for the students. Those teachers could barely speak English, or spoke English with such a heavy accent that I could barely understand them. Moreover, they were often clueless as to how to structure a lesson that anticipated what students would not even know to ask, and covered it in an understandable way. As most of what Mayor DumblASSio does, the NYC department of education is turning to garbage, with dumbed down courses, dumbed down entrance exams to the few elite schools with bright motivated students (allowing the disruptive rabble to get into the school and destroy it), wholesale targeted harassment of veteran teachers to get them out so they can be replaced with half-price newbies who won’t get tenure and who will leave in a couple of years, and now dumbed down certification exams for teachers, so that laughable rejects can be placed in classrooms in place of the fine veteran teachers they are jettisoning as fast as they can, with fabricated poor evaluations and faked up charges against them.
For years it has been clear that the teachers’ unions were just machines to funnel taxpayer dollars directly through operatives’ paychecks to the Democratic Party. When you view it in that context, everything about public education today makes a lot of sense.
“The children” aren’t even part of the equation.
This has been coming on a long time.
They teach kids that they can ‘choose’ their own pronouns, and then they decide they can hire morons.
One can only shake one’s head and wonder what’s next.
Did you hear about “Mastery Grading” before you left? The upshot is that we should grade on a 0-4 scale, not on the 100% scale, and there’s no reason why 70% should be a C. So now we have teachers whose grading scale is 0-20%=F, 21%-40 is a D, a 41%-60% is a C.... so you can pass with a D if you get over 20%.
We certainly don’t want our teachers (indoctrinators) to lear how to read. My God! Do you know the dangers that may create...the ability to independently think!
This just can’t be tolerated by the left and it certainly can’t be taught to the students.
What an absolutely condescending and racial slap in the face to all my teacher, Black and Latino friends. I would be livid if they thought I was not educated enough to be able to meet the bar because I was Black or Latino. What a bunch of B.S this is. The racial stereotyping is alive and well.

What these scores say is that these people did not earn their HS diplomas, or their BAs. They were affirmative-actioned right through, and now they want to be affirmative-actioned into jobs for which they are not qualified.
F them. Pass the test, or hit the bricks.
You know folks, the answer to all this nonsense is clear as the nose on our face.
When kids leaven high school, just gift them a college degree.
Heck, the teachers there are unqualified. All they do is screw these kids up culturally. Many of the degrees are in something like gender studies or basket weaving. And then there’s the issue of many of them protesting more than going to classed.
Why put these kids into debt?
Just gift them the degrees.
It’s just so unfair to have them sit in classed for years.

HOW RACIST IS THAT TO CLAIM THAT A LITERACY TEST SHOULD BE DROPPED BECAUSE TOO MANY BLACKS AND HISPANICS WERE FAILING IT? IT DOESN’T SAY THAT ALL MINORITIES FAIL THE TEST; SO, WHY NOT HIRE ANYONE QUALIFIED WHO PASSES THE TEST, INCLUDING THE SUPPOSED MINORITY OF MINORITIES WHO DO?
