The protests are against CNN show 'Believer with Reza Aslan'.

Washington -- US-based Hindu organisations have demanded an apology from CNN and asked the news channel to stop further airing of a show which they allege promotes xenophobia and 'Hinduphobia'.

A series of protests small and big were held across the US on Saturday and more are scheduled against the airing of six-episode series Believer with Reza Aslan by the CNN.

As many as 16 top Hindu organisations in the US have come together the umbrella of American Hindus Against Defamation (AHAD) to mount a joint campaign against CNN and Reza Aslan.

Prominent among them include, Hindu Mandir Executive Council, representing over 150 temples across North America, Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh with chapters in over one hundred cities in the US, Samskrita Bharati an authoritative source for Samskrita (Sanskrit) education across the world and Ekal Vidyalaya, a US sponsor of over 55,000 one teacher schools across India and Nepal.

On Saturday, AHAD co-sponsored a protest by dozens of Hindu organisations in New York, to protest the show that denigrated Hindu dharma and depicted the holy city of Varanasi as a "city of death."

Members of AHAD and VHP America also participated in protests in Atlanta, Houston and Washington. Additional community protests are planned in Chicago and San Francisco. "We express complete support towards a multitude of Hindu organisations and Indian-American groups that joined hands to protest CNN's dangerous misrepresentation of the Hindu community," said Washington-based coordinator of World Hindu Council of America.

"Aslan has caused serious harm to Hindu community and put the safety of Hindu children in schools across the US in jeopardy...CNN has failed to hold itself to higher standards.

Despite being alerted about the offensive content, CNN proceeded to air the show without consultation with practising Hindu experts," said Ajay Shah, convener of AHAD.

In a statement, AHAD demanded "an on-air apology from CNN and Aslan for offending a billion strong Hindu community. It also asked CNN not to further air the alleged offending episode and a promise to consult practising Hindu scholars nominated before programmes relating to the Hindus are aired.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Aslan said his documentary is not about Hinduism, but about Aghori, a mystical Hindu sect known for extreme rituals. Aslan said there are people who are offended by the episode, especially when it comes to its treatment of such issues as caste discrimination, which remains a touchy subject for many Hindus in America

I couldn’t click on the video when I first saw that story on Drudge. Just too effed up. The libs like to target Christians by showing snake-handlers or Branch Davidians but this is just pure depravity at its worst. In human. Soulless. Those guys sitting around the reporter ( and the brain-eating reporter himself) are worse than animals. No, it did not help Hinduism’s face

Reza Aslan is a Trump hating atheist fag and communist, going around the world and trashing religions, bet he doesn’t try his nonsense in a mooselimb country.

They would cut his head off.

Hindu teaching is not even close to Biblical teaching and is an around 360+ idol religion. They are not right with God. Nevertheless, dealing with the issue at hand, CNN is bought off with muslim money, so Hindu-bashing would be second only to bashing those following God.

I volunteer to be on the jury of anyone who takes out CNN.

Yup, I know how to spell “nullification”.

FU, CNN.

Now, and forever.

In all multiverses.

What do these a-holes have against Hindus? Too republican? Or are they just trying to add Hindus to their aggrieved victims lobby?

I’ll worry about the Hindus when they start up their Thuggee and Suttee customs and cults again. Maybe also some weird customs mentioned in THE GOLDEN BOUGH by Frasier.

But I will never trust a moslem.

Hindu groups in the U.S. and India support President Trump (mostly because he is against Islamic terrorism — as reported — and is concerned about the economy), so maybe that’s why CNN is against Hindus.

Actually, Hinduism is a decidedly monotheistic religion. If you’ve ever read the Gita, chapter 11 pretty much puts to rest this debate. The religion is one that has evolved over time, however, and earlier teachings could be misinterpreted as promoting a polytheistic philosophy. Like all religions, it is one that has evolved. CNN’s focus on one Hindu sect that is outside the mainstream, would be similar to focusing on Christian or Muslim cults that would not represent the religion (Branch Davidians, etc....)

Yes, I agree with your analysis.

I am sorry you and your loved ones are being thrown under the bus because you voted for someone who means to clean up a fair amount of our current bad situation.

I thank you for not wavering.

He wanted to tell us about Hinduism and chose a tiny cult as an example.

This is like how the MSM uses Westboro baptist nuts as examples of Fundamentalist Christians.

There are a billion Hindus and this cult gives no insight into their belief system.

But maybe the hit is because India is Trump friendly...

There have been incidents of widows being caught in house fires in India and they think it is you know what.

I live near a lot of Hindus and they’re fine.
