Are you referring to the study that stated the navy guns knocked out all the big guns on the island in the initial battery?

It was Tarawa if I remember correctly. In general if the pre-invasion bombardment worked so well why were there so many casualties. The Navy concluded pre-invasion bombardment had little effect. Check it out for yourself.

Tarawa was our first amphibious assault against a well-fortified island. Many lessons were learned.

Perhaps you should take ten minutes to read more than a ‘summary’ of the assault.
