I lost sympathy for this bunch when they kicked out the head of a deaf school to replace him/her with a deaf person.

IIRC, it was a "her" that got replaced with a "him".

One thing I remember about that — the new head was trying to address the students, and they went and pulled the fire alarms in the building. When she complained about the noise, they all signed, "What noise?"

I am in the same boat with you, WildHighlander 57. I don’t find family gatherings enjoyable anymore because just about everyone is talking over my head.

But please don’t limit yourself to hearing friends and family. Learn American Sign Language (ASL) and once you learn it, you will enjoy conversation with some very smart Deaf people! Some hearing people have learned ASL and it has been great conversing with them, too! Some community colleges offer beginning ASL. Please go and open up a whole new world for yourself!

I tried to remember my past names but failed. I am sorry that I can’t tell you.

It's horribly isolating & normal-hearing people don't have a clue how to deal with it, and they don't make an effort to do a work-around on communicating.
So, the government should come in and force everyone else to accommodate you? How does that in any way make sense?

Try this for a day:

Turn down the volume on your car radio, stereo, PC, & tv.

Put earplugs in your ears.

Now see how well you do.

I've worked with special needs classes, I know how difficult life can get for some people. But that doesn't mean anything in this context. Just because some people aren't deaf, doesn't mean that they should have to spend money or go out of their way simply to accommodate people who do have problems. Should they? Sure. But that should be a personal choice. The government shouldn't be involved in these kinds of personal interactions in the first place. And, in this case, it's not even services that the users are paying for. These are free-to-anyone videos the university is hosting at their expense, making available to the public. It's crap like this that turns people off to helping people like Gallaudot University

I am surprised there isn’t an app that does this well enough on the fly by now.

"I despise Congress."

I'm going out on a limb, and guessing the ADA is one of those many laws that Congress - who themselves are the employers of large staffs of sycophants** - have exempted themselves from, just like they exempted themselves from other labor-related laws, ObamaCare, etc. Am I right? Anyone know?

**(Not just office staffs, but those who run all the plush perk facilities they indulge in).
