House Intel Leaders Ask Justice Department For Alleged Wiretapping Evidence
ABC News and Reuters ^ | 3 hours ago | Rick Klein Ben Siegel and Mary Bruce

The leaders of the House Intelligence Committee have formally asked the Justice Department to turn over any documentary evidence -- applications, orders or warrants -- related to alleged wiretaps of President Donald Trump and his associates during the campaign, two congressional aides confirm to ABC News.

They have asked DOJ officials to provide information -- if it exists -- by March 13, one aide said. The request was submitted to acting deputy general Dana Boente, who stepped in for Attorney General Jeff Sessions after he recused himself.

The request from House Intel Committee Chairs Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) and Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) follows a similar inquiry from Senators Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) earlier this week.

Trump accused Obama of wiretapping his phones last Saturday, but he has not provided any evidence and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper has said no wiretapping took place.

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi, who was among top members of Congress briefed last night by FBI Director James Comey, also called on Comey this morning to go public with his views if he believes that Trump was mistaken with his series of tweets last weekend accusing President Obama of ordering him to be wiretapped.

Pelosi declined to comment on whether she has been told of any specific communications between the Trump campaign and Russian officials. But she did say the fact that Paul Manafort was removed from his position as Trump campaign chairman last summer suggests that the Trump operation knew of a connection between Manafort and Russian officials.

Manafort was ousted last August amid internal feuding and media scrutiny over his past work for pro-Russian interests. The Trump operation has denied that campaign officials had contacts with the Russians, a claim that has come under fire in recent weeks

Will this be another “you don’t have clearance to see them “excuse?

You mean the alleged wiretapping evidence the New York Times had a front page story on back on January 19th but has since put in the memory hole? That alleged wiretapping evidence?

The operative word is 'surveillance' and should cover Trump and his entire campaign organization. They should also demand any FISA warrants covering the same perimeters. Because if they strictly ask for wiretapping of Trump they are going to get the same denials and head-shaking. And, while we're at it how about copies of all Obama's daily briefings so we can know what he knew and when did he know it.

Then, expand this to analyze the ability of surveillance and hacking to look like 'the Russians did it' which would then cover the gambit.

Of course they know. It’s been months. They have zip on Trump regarding all this Russian claptrap. Lets see the applications for warrants! And still not a peep or even a brief statement from Obama himself in regards to this. Total silence.

This is exactly what a yellow journalism slime job looks like. Then they wonder why everyone is starting to hate them.

Just the fact the lying media are not following and or camping on Obama’s doorstep with satellite trucks up and down his street, waiting for a statement, is revealing. I would imagine if it were Trump in Obama’s shoes shoes right now, this is exactly what the media would be doing.

*************

Just like John Kerry, the NYT was sure of the wiretapping before they weren’t sure of it.

Manafort was ousted last August amid internal feuding and media scrutiny over his past work for pro-Russian interests.

I'm sorry, but this is NOT a factual statement.

He stepped down, citing personal reasons, on August 19th.

Rick Klein Ben Siegel and Mary Bruce are speculating at best (otherwise called guessing) or lying (as I believe they are).

People have been speculating as to WHY Manafort stepped down, but all his Russian involvement and working for the previous Ukrainian president (the pro-Russian one before the Maidan Uprising) was well known and documented. It's not like Trump just found out and then dumped him.

In my opinion, Manafort did leave because of the Russian thing, but only because the democrats and media were starting to latch on to it as a campaign strategy. In fact, a couple of days before Manafort stepped down, Hillary was lamenting (yeah sure) what she called the Trump-Putin "Bromance". That whole time period is when all the Russian talking points were being made.

Manafort left to take that ammo from them.
