There have been 13 special elections since Nov 8. 3 in 2016 and 10 in 2017. All of them have been won by the party holding the seat previously. 2 state Senate seats have determined control of their Senates. Both won by Dems running in districts reps would have unlikely won.

Ballotpedia has an interesting paragraph on why the vacancies etc.

Breakdown of 2017 special elections
In 2017, special elections for state legislative positions are being held for a variety of reasons:

21 due to appointment, election, or the seeking of election to another position
1 due to an ineligible general election candidate
5 due to the incumbent accepting another job
4 due to a retirement
2 due to a death
The partisan breakdown for the special elections is as follows:

14 Democratic seats
19 Republican seats

There are additional special elections scheduled with at least two that I saw will guarantee change of party. LA has race with only rep candidates and one other.

This is the other one

A special election for the position of Pennsylvania House of Representatives District 197 has been called for March 21, 2017.

The seat is vacant following Leslie Acosta’s (D) resignation on January 3, 2017. In late September 2016, it was revealed that Acosta had secretly pleaded guilty to one charge of conspiracy to commit money laundering, a federal felony, in March 2016.

As of March 3, Lucinda Little (R) was the only eligible candidate filed for the district. Democrat Freddie Ramirez was removed from the ballot via residency challenge. Democratic Party officials then nominated Emilio Vazquez, but did so past the filing deadline. Commonwealth Court Judge Anne Covey rejected efforts to see Vazquez added to the ballot. Green Party candidate Cheri Honkala was also denied a spot on the ballot after her nomination was submitted a day past the deadline.

The Dems are spending big bucks on the special election to replace former Congressman Tom Price, now HHW Secretary, here in the GA 6th District. 4/18 election date. I’ve seen ads for one of the Dem candidates on Jeopardy, for instance. This is Newt’s old district, to put this in perspective.
