Kurdish YPG fighters repel Turkish attack near Syria’s Afrin

Clashes erupted on Friday between the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) and Turkish military forces in Afrin District, in northwestern Syria.

Turkey’s military entered Syrian territory near Afrin in Aleppo Governorate, and shelled a YPG-held village.

“The Kurdish village of Bilbil in Afrin District was hit by several Turkish shells. At least five civilians were injured in the attack,” local media activist Rojin Ibrahim told ARA News.

“After crossing the border into Syria, the Turkish Army targeted Bibil in preparation to storm the village and take it as a base for further offensives on the Kurdish district of Afrin,” she said.

“However, the YPG responded by bombing a Turkish military convoy to prevent them from further advancing into Afrin,” the source reported.

A YPG spokesperson told ARA News that Friday’s clashes between their fighters and the Turkish forces continued for nearly 2 hours. “Erdogan’s troops were eventually forced to retreat back to their basis near the borderline,” the official said.

“We won’t allow Turkey to occupy Rojava or any other part of northern Syria. Our [YPG] forces are prepared for any scenario, we are ready to defend our land against the Turkish occupying forces and their mercenaries,” the spokesman said.

Erdogan's Turkish Army again crosses border and shells villages.

Turkey is not in Syria to end ISIS as he started out saying. Turkey is there to conquer and take territory.

And to terrorize quiet villages. (as long as they are Kurd)

I must disagree. I strongly support an independent Kurdistan.

You might want to rephrase that from “nobody” to “I don’t”. Because many do give a crap.

Erdogan is always out for Erdogan. He is not to be trusted and the US will get burned again if they cooperate too closely with him. The US needs to finesse backing the Kurds as the more sane ally in the area.

I care about them. They are about the only reliable allies we have in the region.

Ask the Israelis for advice on this matter. They are part of the Middle East and they are the only friends that we have in that area.
