Arguably, Light-in-Loafers Lindsey is correct.
We can’t beat ISIS and other Moslem terrorists by killing off the foot soldiers - they have a near-infinite pool of recruits.
But we can’t win by talking either.
We need to find who is supplying them, who is funding them, and who is doing business with them - and destroy them. Cut the enemy off from his logistics and he’ll die.
They agree on a lot more than we want to know.
Stop the leaks. That’s how you win a war.

This is how the Son of Cain and this C-Sucker get elected. The industrial military complex workers vote for them because it means more contracts and more work making war materials for foreign wars.
A conflict betweens nations or cultures that comes to violence, as this one already has, can only end with any finality when one side destroys enough of the people and things of the other side that they decide to give in and not fight back anymore. That is the one and only way to end a war once it has begun. Anyone who urges any other course of action is simply aiding and abetting the enemy, and taking away from the morale and motivation of the fighting forces and those who support them.
This is the beauty of M.A.D. and nuclear weapons. For the first time in history, the political authorities who send young men to war are in as great a danger of dying (perhaps more?) as are those young men carrying the rifles.
It made them very apprehensive about starting a major war. As Heinlein said:

There are two alternatives to winning wars by killing people:
- Make it abundantly clear that you are so overwhelmingly armed/equipped/staffed that _should_ engagement occur they’ll be slaughtered until they do give up.
- Declare victory and surrender accordingly.
