A march supporting President Trump is expected to take place in Berkeley on Saturday, and while city officials said there’s little credible evidence of a major event materializing, they are worried about what will happen if counterprotesters show up.

Meetings have been held to discuss the best way to protect local businesses, said Berkeley Chamber of Commerce CEO Kirsten McDonald.

The “red” part of California really isn’t all that far away.

how best to protect the businesses? how about how best to protect the peaceful participants?

I have an idea for them, tho. Force a perimeter 10 blocks in each direction from the event. Cross the line, go to jail. Ya’ll got jails, don’t you, Berkeley?

To use the word 'counterprotesters' is per se media malpractice! They are not going there to counter a protest, rather to protest against Americans' freedom of assembly and freedom of speech! More fake news from the propaganda ministry...

I am eleventy billion percent sure that not one Trump supporter will break a single window or otherwise loot any businesses or throw the first punch in any “brawl” that occurs.

“Trump supporters planning to take to the streets of Berkeley”

This news will deeply upset a handful of soros/GOPe trolls here on FR who believe that we should never physically fight the leftists. Instead, we should fall on the floor like GWB and let the democrat commies and nazis stomp our nuts into the concrete.

This is probably the dumbest location for a pro-Trump gathering I ever heard of.

Would not surprise me a bit to find out the radical left are actually the ones organizing it.

To the contrary - take the fight to the enemy.

Awaiting the reports of the outcome of this.

Color me suspicious.

This doesn’t pass the sniff test; it doesn’t even past the cringe test.

Implicit is the assumption that there are an appreciable number of in-your-face Trump supporters willing to challenge Berkeley, and give forewarning of their presence.

Violence at this event, as they will well know, will only harm Trump supporters’ image in the press. It will also help balance and therefore erase leftists’ deserved reputation as the side that is causing violence.

I suspect that some student has just learned about the Skokie march, and thought, “Hey, we could recreate the same thing here. I could even testify before the Supreme Court! I hope I get hit!”

No...its stupid, period.

I’m also quite sure you’re not going to be there either, why don’t you get back on the porch?

Maybe. Maybe not. It takes courage to go deep into enemy territory and make a statement that we are not going to be intimidated by these thugs I will give them that. I kind of like the idea myself.

I agree...the sad part is that there are plenty of other places in the SF Bay area where this event could have been held with a positive outcome.

“there are plenty of other places in the SF Bay area where this event could have been held with a positive outcome.”

Off the top of my head, I’d say that in California the most effective place to hold a pro-Trump rally at the moment would be near the Oroville dam.
