The personal views of this individual do not represent Liberty and we vigorously disavow them.

Although the message and subsequent apologies were sent from an individual’s personal account, and bore no connection to his work with Liberty, his comments were inconsistent with the Company’s values and the unyielding respect it has for the members of our Nation’s Armed Forces. Regardless of whether the comments in the tweet were intended to cause the hurt and anger that they ultimately generated, they were unacceptable to us, and the individual who issued the tweet is no longer affiliated with Liberty.

Liberty’s culture places a high value on the men and women of America’s military who fight to defend us and our families. We honor them. We want to express our sincere condolences to Mrs. Owens. As I've gotten older, my willingness to overlook the sins of a person has receded. I would no longer send a sympathy card to Eva Braun. When Svetlana Alliluyeva's father died of an aneurism I don't recall a flood of condolence notes from NATO.

For me, that lack of compassion has expanded to democrats. To the point where I no longer capitalize the name, since they are no longer proper, in any sense of the word. The democrats will put a bullet in your head without a twinge. Witness Portland, SF, DC, and on and on.

The tweet was assinine and dispicable. But it bugs me that he lost his job over it. It would be completly approriate to fire him if he had said that on behalf of the orginaztion he worked for, but unless his twitter account is widely aasociated with the comapnies brand seems wrong to fire him. Let the market place of ideas be a free market.

I agree in part. The marketplace of ideas should be a free market, with all the pitfalls and rewards of such.

But . . . some behaviors (and speech) must not, can not, be tolerated.

If the Obama years (and the saturation of social media) have taught us anything, it is that there is no such thing as "free" speech. All speech is now under a microscope.

Every post, every tweet (personal or business) is scrutinized, cherry-picked and "narrative-d" to death.

We are (or have become) a hypersensitive politically-divided society, seeing perceived slights and insults in every word (depending on where one falls in the political spectrum).

And companies and organizations, because of this hypersensitivity, seek to quash and rid themselves of any appearance of bad actors, including this Grilo.

Would be interesting to know if this same company/organization would have "fired" him if Killary had been elected or if this was said during the Obama administration . . .

The cynic in me says that he would still have his job. And I have no doubt that his brand of hate will find another job/position.
