Okay, I have read the article.
I’m not going to gainsay you on any particular. You’ve seen what you’ve seen, and you’re right there.
If we can discuss this as comrades in arms, with civility, I’d like to do that.
I have chronic pain, arthritis in every joint, sciatica resulting from spinal injury, and a few months ago fell and tore a rotator cuff quite badly, which is somewhat better now but smarted a bit early on.
The swine at the VA who is getting paid to be my doctor has me on a dangerous combination of nothing, bupkis, niente, and nada. Because of the institutional hysteria convulsing the VA, he will only prescribe things that *he*knows* are utterly inadequate to provide any significant measure of relief, mainly NSAIDs.
They took out my gall bladder and were planning to send me home the same day with one (1) tablet of tramadol.
When I gave up on him ever providing any measure of pain relief whatsoever, I told him that he is a despicable scoundrel. I guess it’s no surprise that now he will not give me anything for any ailment, not even antibiotics for a severe sinus infection. I doubt that hed give me a tourniquet for arterial bleeding.
So, you see, my perspective is quite different from yours. You have seen overprescription, and I cant get doodly squat. If I went to a legal pot store, that would invalidate my concealed carry, and this town is going bad quickly, what with all the illegals.
Now, I do notice that Marine Simcakoski (RIP) did not die of a drug overdose. That is, he did not take too much oxycodone or too much morphine. The Marine Corps veterans medical record shows Houlihan advised Davis to add Suboxone to his existing cocktail of 14 drugs, which included antipsychotics, tranquilizers, muscle relaxants and the opioid painkiller tramadol.
In my view, Simcakoski was killed by incompetent doctors. The official diagnosis was mixed drug toxicity, not drug overdose. The doctors incompetently kept adding medication on top of medication, until the combination became lethal. Every doctor knows better than that. Hell, every layperson knows better than that.
What is up with having a headshrinker as chief of staff of the hospital? Sort of like having a supply sergeant in command of a battalion of infantry, isnt it?
Another thing Id like to know is, has any competent doctor examined these patients to see how much pain relief they actually needed? How much overprescribing of opiates has actually been going on? Since I got into the system after returning to the States in 2006, my problem has been getting anything that might actually be effective. Theyve had me on a crapload of different stuff, but never on any large amounts of opiates.
Even accepting everything said about Houlihan at face value, what has happened is a hysterical backlash that is denying veterans any and all pain relief, because the doctors are cowards who will sacrifice their patients on the altar of their career.
“...but never on any large amounts of opiates.”
Well, Thank God for that! My Ex-husband was (and still may be) addicted to Oxy. And then, for the fun of it, he introduced it to his son! *SPIT* (Son is fine, now. Clean and Sober for 6 years, runs a half-way house for others.)
My nephew died of a heroin overdose. He was 19.
I hope you find some relief. We all have our crosses to bear.
“We all have our crosses to bear.”
That’s cold.
