News used to be 3 networks and a newspaper. Now it’s 4-5 24/7 TV stations. They have to fill time.
I never cared or even knew if someone in kansas was kidnapped or if a thing hit a guy ‘s head into the side and got shot. Now the president invited the other to the WH to blast the cops.
Top much coverage not enough news.
Too much speculation and not enough real reporters.
Too much gossip and not enough investigation.
“Whats your point? We have less than 3 million people. And for the most part, were a pretty nice bunch of people.”
No point except that Kansas has not executed anyone in 50 years and shooter in this incident in the bar will do a 50 years in prison and not be executed.
With good behavior, he will be a free man and back to drinking at the bar by his 102nd birthday.
You sound like the guy who owns the local liqueur store I go to. He is an American.
You guys miss the point entirely, according to liberal/progressive/statist logic. Don’t you know, the perp would never have pulled the trigger in the first place if he knew he was going to be prosecuted for a hate crime. He certainly thought, “You know, I think I will just shoot these guys, but I better not yell any racist remarks or else I will really be in trouble!”
I am all for action on “Hate Crimes”.
But it should be analytically and data-driven real-risk assessment.
So, how many Indians, muslims, mexicans or “foreigners” were killed in 2016 due to “Hate Crime” intent?
And how many Americans were killed by mexicans or muslims?
I am pretty certain it is extremely lopsided in the tallying.
Just to be sure, I note there would be /s tags at a few places in my last post, specifically in the first line and somewhat in the second.
Hate Crime is federal and exists to be implemented in cases where a state jury fails to convict someone for killing a person who a juror or jurors found to be because of race religion etc, undesirable.
Propaganda is what we are being inundated with 24/7
Wouldn’t be surprised if he was an H1B hire though... Garmin does employ quite a few engineers for software development on H1Bs... mostly from India. Doesn’t excuse what happened, though.
Hate crime legislation is an abomination.
To prosecute requires knowing the thought process of someone who commits a crime.
Laws exist, they should be followed. If someone is assaulted, laws for prosecution of assault should be observed. Not special “Hate Assault” laws.
Yes. See my post at #31.
No. This is a real crime. A real murder. Yes, it’s rare, but don’t pretend a family has not been torn apart.
Yes. It’s true. The police are the source, not CNN...as I roll my eyes.
You are right. This, of course, flies in the face of the Constitutional constraint against “double jeopardy.”
I don’t doubt this story is true. I made a snide remark about CNN. Sorry you didn’t get that. I question CNN about everything. If you haven’t been paying attention, CNN is “fake news.” The idiot that shot him should spend the rest of his life behind bars.
There are thousands and thousands of people in the USA being killed. CNN and other liberal media outlets will run with this story over and over because it fits there agenda. I can find you many more stories that are just as horrible they will never mention.
They don't, per se. Those sentenced to death are held in administrative segregation at the penitentiary at El Dorado. Executions, when they eventually occur, will be at the penitentiary at Lansing.
How? Double jeopardy is when you are tried for the same crime twice. This will be trials for separate crimes.
In almost every instance, you are tried for the exact same act because the Feds don’t like the outcome of the State trial. Same act. Same victim. Same witnesses. Often the exact same punishment. Just a different statute number, court house and judge.
Essentially, in 90% of the cases, it gives the prosecution a “second bite of the apple.” That is what double jeopardy is intended to prevent.
One is a federal crime. One is a state crime. Different charges. No double jeopardy.
