Despite the Hysteria, Trump Is Trending Less Authoritarian Than Obama
National Review ^ | February 23, 2017 | David French

Through personnel and policy, President Trump is limiting the executive branch.

Lost in most of the coverage of President Trump’s decision to rescind the Obama administration’s transgender mandates is a fundamental legal reality — the Trump administration just relinquished federal authority over gender-identity policy in the nation’s federally funded schools and colleges.

In other words, Trump was less authoritarian than Obama. And that’s not the only case. Consider the following examples where his administration, through policy or personnel, appears to be signaling that the executive branch intends to become less intrusive in American life and more accountable to internal and external critique.

President Trump, were he truly authoritarian, there would be illegals disappearing off the streets and there would be ZERO press coverage about it at all.

Is this an ‘eating crow moment’ for National Review?

I thought they were pretty tough on Trump over time.

Am I off base on that?

N.P. worthless reporting, and besides the fact, the only people that are in ‘hysterics’ are the ‘fake news media’, the libs and the RINO’s...

The American People that voted for President Trump, over 63 million of us, are perfectly fine, happy and are finally smiling and laughing once again...

Reversing authoritarian edicts is not authoritarian.

Seriously? Those NeverTrumpers are still nuts for the most parts. There are only a very few who have accepted they were wrong, and they have some who were nevertrump to the date of the election, and then have pretended ever since that their opinion matters, and that they are conservative.

This is just one writer at NR, but many folks, myself included, are happily surprised. Eating crow? I may yet do that.

I don’t know about eating crow. But it certainly is a display of intellectual honesty.

The anti-Trumpers should wake to the truth of this. A particular want to see how the anti-Trumper Libertarians react to this bathroom rule in that its a true pure libertarian Act of taking the Federal out of saying either way

I expect a lot of so-called Libertarians will reveal themselves themselves as actually authoritarians left by denouncing Trump actions of not “protecting” the transgender

Libertarians party support for gay marriage was always pro the authoritarian federal state interjecting itself into private matters I never understood how anybody could call that libertarian

That’s okay..., not trying to out anyone.

I just thought the National Review had notoriously gotten it wrong last year.

While I do lean that way, I’ll have to ask, “What choice did they have?”

This guy is killin’ it on even the minutia. It’s as if a FReeper were president.

Sooner or later they have to eat crow and slither back behind Trump or be seen for the craven enemies of the Free Republic (not referencing FR here) they would be.

I remember vividly the opening days and months of the Obama Administration people asking "what rights is Obama going to take away next?

Many of those people were here on Free Republic.

I remember responding back every time that they were asking the wrong question. The correct question was "what "right" does Obama have to do this?" Why did people crumble so fast under Obama's authoritarianism?

Because they were afraid to be called a racist.

I wasn't. I stood by the Constitution, Separation of Powers and the defined role of the Federal Government as expressed by the Founding Fathers in the Federalist Papers, the Constitution and our Declaration of Independence.

I'm HEARTENED to see President Trump rushing to return power to the States so quickly. Of course there are issues that the Federal Government may still be hanging onto without returning them to the States quite yet however I think President Trump will "get there" eventually on those issues also.

I recommend not trusting them. Ever.

They are NeoCons and Cuckservatives.

They are not friendly to Western civilization.

The writer of this piece is David French.

If anybody wants to know what an absolute cuck this man is, do a Google image search for "David French family"

The virtue signaling is STRONG with this one.

Okay great. That was my impression, but I wanted to fly it by some others to verify I was on the right track.
