Leading Republican lawmakers said over the weekend proposals for a new Trump-administration-backed infrastructure bill could be introduced as early as the coming weeks.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R. Ky.) told reporters he expects to receive “some kind of recommendation on an infrastructure bill, a subject that we frequently handle on a bipartisan basis,” but gave no details or timing.

He has previously voiced concern over adding to budget deficits with a new injection of federal funds for road, bridge and other construction projects like the ones President Barack Obama secured from Congress in 2009, especially after a major highway funding law was enacted about a year ago.

During the campaign, Trump said he would push for a $1 trillion infrastructure program to rebuild roads, bridges, airports and other public works projects. He said he wanted action during the first 100 days of his administration, which now seems unlikely.

I would like to see President Trump standing in front of this Orwell Dam (safely) and incorporating it into his infrastructure bill. His speech can go something like this. I am worried for the safety of the American people. Failed politicians have let our infrastructure deteriorate, neglecting their responsibilities but instead spending tax payer funds on special interest projects that only help their wealthy donors and friends.

I call for congress to quickly pass my infrastructure funding bill to begin restoration on our failing bridges, roads, air ports and other vital projects our country needs for their personal safety and a vibrant economy.

No, no, no—Congress shouldn’t be rewarded with a big pork-barrel bill before they pass serious tax cuts and repeal Obamacare!

The proviso should be, the Prez will offer infrastructure legislation after we have saved the country billions of dollars due to supporting illegal aliens and illegal drugs pouring into this country.

INCENTIVE

If governors want money, do your freaking job and enforce current immigration laws and eliminate illegal alien welfare, crime, and drugs. If California, for example, doesn't want to play by these rules, then no Federal money for Cali (FYI, I own property in CA).

States would have to submit deportation documentation on a quarterly basis, and based on verification, further analysis would determine the amount of infrastructure dollars granted to those states. Any monies not allocated to infrastructure would violate any further contributions.

Oink. Oink. Wonder if he Leadership will allow Members of our gutless Congress to read this before voting on it... Another Trillion in deficit spending, creating a less credible baseline upon which to project the 'cost' of much more desperately necessary tax cuts. The latter was first out of the gate in early 1961 & 1981. Putting Keynesian "stimulus" spending ahead of serious tax reform delays the first deficit effects and afterward the economic boom longer and make tax cuts a more difficult sell. And stimulus rarely stimulates.

It make real defense spending increase more difficult to sell also. I see the clumsy and cowardly strategies of our gutless Congress in this.

It should nevertheless be entertaining to watch the Soros-Left morph into deficit hawks.

BTTT! Pork is ALWAYS ‘top priority’; screw the pleebs (I mean, it’s only OUR $$)

Don’t recall Congress being too worried to audit TARP and the last shovel-ready graft, I mean pay-off, I mean infrastructure bill.

How ‘bout no more such bills until and FULL accounting is done on the LAST chunk of taxpayer cash?

Agreed. Also, we had been reassured that Trump’s infrastructure bill would primarily be a matter of clearing the way for approvals for private investments in infrastructure projects, such as energy pipelines, refineries, etc.

Those of us who weren’t born yesterday didn’t trust it not be become a classic congressional pork-barrel giveaway. And somehow we’re putting up with the weasel named Priebus because of how he’s going to get congress to do the right thing by Trump???

It still has to be signed. Do you think that is going to happen without the President taking the time to see how Congress plans on paying for it?

If they are going to give states money tie it up so it is used only on that project, and not put into the general fund, and that the bids are for reasonable prices and only sound architecturally Memphis just went through a 5 yr major freeway construction, most of it is not sound architecturally to be safe to make lane changes. That they don’t go to any legislators relatives like Pelosi. We have to many freeways that are poorly built, medians than obstruct traffic view and are NOT needed.
