I sure am glad Canada is so civilized. We can learn a lot from them. /sarc
Schizophrenia is a *real* disease...a brain disorder.I worked in Emergency Medicine Administration for years and we saw it regularly.The brain is,in a very real sense,just another organ.The heart...liver....lungs...kidneys...eyes...colon,etc can malfunction (even long term) and when they do they create specific symptoms/problems.When the brain malfunctions it,too,can cause specific symptoms and problems.
Should this guy be on the loose? Should he be free? Very probably not by the sound of it.But it seems possible that he shouldn't be held *criminally* responsible for this.
It sounds to me as if he should spend the rest of his life in a psych hospital rather than in prison or on the streets.
As an aficionado of "True Crime" stories, I know that almost all Canadian murders -no matter how heinous- end with the convicted person being released in less than 10 years, usually five.
