Lower levels of professional baseball, as well as the upcoming World Baseball Classic, will have a radical rule change. When games reach extra innings, teams will begin their at-bats with a man already on second base. If it works well, the rule could eventually work its way to MLB.

It ain’t broke! Don’t fix it!

No. This is a hoax.

If they need more scoring, why not start the first inning with the bases loaded?

If they need to shorten the games, change the length to 7 innings.

Maybe they can make pitchers throw underhand in the late innings. More hits, more runs, and fans won’leave early. More food and beer sales.

Have the batters go to the plate with a 1 -1 count, and if a batted ball knocks over the fielder’s beer the batter is out.

What?!? Baseball is great because it’s allowed to play out. Here’s hoping this never makes its way to the majors.

I have an even better suggestion.

Give both teams a fruitbox drink and participation ribbon and call it a tie.

Freaking wimps!

It’s not about more scoring, but rather tied extra inning games going 15+ innings, taking forever, and depleting a team, to where they’ll have starters pitching the 18th inning and pinch hitting.

This idea is still really stupid though.

here’s another “great idea”...

Let’s let Las Vegas run college football...If a team is an 11 point favorite, give the opposing team 11 points to begin the game...YEAH!!!! GREAT!!!!!

After one of the greatest World Series ever, in which game 7 went an extra inning, this is ill-advised.

“just put them on 3rd base.”

You’re playing the Kansas City Royals, the game is tied, and the rule discussed in the article is operative. The Royals get a man on second as described - however that’s determined, it doesn’t matter - they put in Jarrod Dyson as a pinch runner. Dyson was 8 for 8 in stealing third last year, and 10 for 10 stealing third the year before.

So, in all likelihood:

There’s a man on third with nobody out.

A better revision would be to allow a player who has not been in the game for 9 or more innings, to return to the lineup in his previous batting spot.
