House votes to overturn Obama drilling rule
The House on Friday passed a resolution to reverse a pollution rule for oil and natural gas drillers that was put in place by the Obama administration.
Members voted 221-191 to approve a Congressional Review Act resolution against the Bureau of Land Management’s methane venting and flaring rule. If approved by the Senate and signed by President Trump, the rule would come off the books for good.
Republicans and the oil industry say the rule would hinder energy production on federal lands by restricting drilling, costing jobs as well as tax and royalty payments for state and local governments.

Before Trump leaves office this sort of thing needs to be nipped in the bud for good.
Agencies shouldn’t be able to make up “rules” on the fly that literally take a law passed by congress and signed by the president to repeal.
Seems to me a “rule” isn’t a duly executed federal statute. At most, the agency which concocted the rule should be under control of the executive branch which could rescind it post haste.
Eco wanker heads ‘splodin’ all over the place. Uh oh. Bio-hazard clean up on aisle 7. STAT!

Under current rules, any regulation that has gone beyond 60 legislative days since first published in the Federal Register must have a 60 or 90 days (not recalling which one) period before Congress where concerned parties may present their arguments in favor of or against repeal.
If that is done under the Congressional Review Act and the Congress approves, by vote, to allow the rescinding of the regulation at issue, by law that regulation can never again be issued by any future administration absent a congressional vote of approval.
And if something works & it aint broke, don’t “fix”it. Leave it alone. Like lower taxes.

A joint resolution would require senate and president approval. I thought a CRA resolution didn’t require senate and presidential approval.
This could be wrong, but the way I understand it is that the president and the agency could roll the rule back without the involvement of congress or the senate.
But the next democrat administration (if there ever is one) could just make the rule again.
However this action by congress, if it becomes a law, forbids any administration from making the same rule again.
Of course we all know that if democrats ever make it back into power they will create some sort of loophole and do what they want - the law be damned!

But what I am saying is..
we need to take this opportunity to end this practice once and for all.
Otherwise eventually another Democrat will be elected and they will start making up rules again. Rules that have the power of law... ARE LAWS. And agencies with a wink from the president shouldn’t have the power to create law.
There are already so many rules in place in layers.
If approved by the Senate, need l say more?
