The president is considering deporting immigrants who are on welfare. Did you ever in your wildest dreams imagine you would be reading such a sentence?

There was once a referendum in California that passed, denying any government benefits to illegal immigrants. A federal judge overturned it.
So, by “immigrant” do we mean non-US citizen getting US monetary benefits?
Okay, I stopped understanding here. First the WaPo says that Trump is planning to deport immigrants on welfare. Then the WaPo says immigrants, by law, are not on welfare.
Let me help you out, California has their Very Own Special Welfare Program just for Illegal Aliens, I would bet the other States in question have the same.
I know Canada, UK and Mexico have laws saying some version of “if you want to here, you have to be able to support yourself, add to society etc..”. I am sure most other countries have similar laws.
Do we? If so, can he just ensure they are enforced?
If he is able to do this, he will have gone beyond what I realistically expected him to do and will be in the territory of fulfilling some of my fondest political dreams.
About 35 years ago, perhaps, but I did not hear it then, except as a throw away promise. This seems real.
We do have such laws. Not sure if they were changed by the courts or just forgotten.
More winning!

Get it on, Get it done!!!
Immigrants used to have to show they could support themselves or someone was supporting them.
Any libs that get upset should volunteer to pay the welfare for someone
Reminds me of The Santa Clause 2: The new Santa went back to the rule book and started enforcing what was already written. Unintended consequences resulted in everyone getting coal that year. This is kinda like that... only in a good way!!!
This move is going to be an eye-opener.....b/c of all the immigrants collecting benefits under multiple identities.
Forgotten. Since welfare is usually distributed at the county level, each county decides whether or not they’ll enforce the law. Kind of like the cities have decided to not enforce laws against illegals, so have the counties re: welfare.
I was an eligibility worker for food stamps and MediCal for years in a conservative county. We didn’t pay any attention to the sponsorship and citizen laws like that. If they were legal they got aid.
Yeah, Prop 187. It was overturned by a judge and then Gray Davis didn’t challenge it. That’s the reason California has more of a % of people in poverty than Mississippi and is solidly blue.
No brainer. Make it so.
Yes. Immigrants needed a sponsor. Had to purchase health insurance.
My wife is a naturalized legal immigrant that emigrated to the US in 2004. The documents for the immigration process clearly state that the immigrant is in no ways to become a public charge. I had to present three years of tax returns to the US Embassy to prove it.
We need to stop families with illegals as parents accessing the system through anchor children.
Money, EBT, MEDICAL And so forth.
