We achieved this success not do to hard work but simply because it was the most stocked fishing grounds a Border Patrol Agent could ask for. You could not drive 5 miles in any direction and not make an apprehension. We were limited to 63 apprehensions per day due to our removal buses capacity. We were generally at that count by 11:00 or noon.
There were no day laborers in front of the Home Depo or anywhere else because they knew if more that two stood on a corner a BP van would snatch them.
The local PD and jail were great, at the time there was a local policy not to cooperate with the INS, the cops and sheriffs ignored it and would drop off the trouble makers several times a day to our office. The jail had a list for us every morning of the people they suspected we wanted to talk to.
The city officers viewed us as a resource to reduce crime and increase public safety by taking out their trash. They did not mess with the regular working class illegal aliens only the scumbags.
Sadly Fresno and the rest of the interior BP stations in the US were closed after 911 to understandably redirect resources to the Border. I can't imagine how full my old fishing pond is today.
My son-in-law was a sheriff’s deputy.
He caught illegals all the time but INS would not take them.
Told him to just turn ‘em loose.
